Tell us a little about yourself. I'm originally from Holland, Michigan. I love traveling, and I love shoes.
What was your motivation behind this project? In the recent barrage of Christian Dating books, I wanted to offer my story as a different approach. Most of the literature available to teens focuses on dating as a problem to be rid of. I think such books are missing the point. If Christian young people can learn to find their identity in Christ, their behavior within relationships will reflect that. Then, whether they're dating or not, they'll be on the right path. "Saving My First Kiss" explores the life of a Christian young woman--me--who is not dating but often wishes she were. The book discusses issues that girls and women face on a regular basis: loneliness, trust, patience, sexual purity, modesty, etc., and seeks to offer a Biblical understanding of those issues.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope that young girls who dream of their Prince Charming will be encouraged to have strength enough to actually wait for him.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I prefer art that portrays life in a realistic and true manner. Some of my recent favorites include writer Lauren Winner (of "Girl Meets God"/Algonquin) and singer/songwriter Nichole Nordeman.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I really am keeping confetti in my closet.
