Publisher's Description

Christians speak of "being saved," but all too often don’t follow the phrase to its logical reply: "Saved from what?" How do we answer this question when we share the gospel with others? Far from being a matter of semantics, the issue holds critical importance for believers and non-believers alike. Is it really sufficient to say that we are saved from our sins?

R. C. Sproul uses Scripture to show that the question, in its most important sense, should be phrased, "Saved from whom?" The answer: God himself. God, in righteous wrath, stands against us in our sin. But the glory of the gospel is that the one from whom we need to be saved is the very one who saves us. It is when we truly grasp the significance of Christ’s redeeming work that we begin to understand the serious demands and joys of repentance. Thoughtful readers will be strengthened and challenged by this insightful volume. Now available in paperback.

This review was written for Saved from What?.
In this book R.C. Sproul sets out to explain what the bible teaches about the doctrine of salvation.

In the first part of the book he covers what we are saved from. He discusses how salvation is to be biblically understood in light of how man has miserably fallen short of God's standards, and how he can be saved from the wrath of God through faith in the work of Jesus Christ.

In the second part he discusses what we are saved by. He covers the significance of the cross, the threefold aspect of sin, Christ as our ransom, and how Christ satisfied the wrath of God through his substitutionary death.

In the third part of the book he discusses what we are saved for. In short, R.C. contends that we are saved to be forever in the presence of God.

Lastly, R.C. lucidly explains much of the biblical words and theological jargon associated with the theme of salvation. Prepare yourself to laugh, cry, and fall in humble adoration as R.C. unfolds the drama of redemption and the love of God.

    A must read!

Next to the Bible itself, this book is the most needed study for all Christians. In it, R.C. concisely postulates the very essence of salvation, our position without the cross and our position thereafter. Our church has lost its foundation thereby rendering our exhortation that everyone be saved lacks any real meaning. But once we have fully comprehended the holiness and justice of God, we cannot forget exactly what we are saved from, giving revival to our mission as God's ambassadors.
