"Save the Date is a sweet romance filled with laugh-out-loud moments. Jones breathes new life into the cliched 'relationship of convenience' plot with characters to root for." Four stars. - Romantic Times

Jenny B. Jones has a knack for wit, which is cleverly displayed in her latest novel, Save the Date. Unlikely love takes on a new challenge with Lucy Wiltshire and Alex Sinclair. Lucy is an independent woman who has dedicated her life to help girls who have been cycled out of the foster care system. She is forced to take drastic measures when her safe haven for girls, Saving Grace, is purchased by the city to be demolished within a few months. Lucy does everything in her power to save the home, but her timeline is cut even shorter. Along with the stress of the deadline, she has extra stress from her ex-boyfriend returning and wanting her back in his life. Also, a proposition from Alex Sinclair could save the home and her girls, but might cost Lucy everything she values personally.

Psalm 61:4 is a foundational text for this novel: "I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings." 1 Timothy 6:17 also has a message that runs throughout the course of the novel: "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment."

Jones has a gift for humor. She intricately weaves a story in which young adult women can easily relate. Jones uses a dual point of view to help the reader connect with both of the main characters and to understand their individual feelings. She uses sarcasm and jabs to unite Alex and Lucy. The sarcastic comments eventually lead to a deeper connection between the two, which ultimately leads to an understanding of each of their lives and pasts.

Lucy is juggling a home for young women, troubles with its newest member, and trying to pay the city to keep the property. Things become even more difficult when her only option to save the girls and the home is to pose as the fiance of the man known as the "Playboy," Alex Sinclair. This would give the former NFL star a good standing in the Congressional election and get Lucy the money to pay off the home. Lucy decides to pose as the future wife of a man she does not love and, because of it, distances herself from her ex-boyfriend who is still pursuing her.

Lucy is an independent woman, but she forgets she cannot do life on her own all of the time. She forgets there are situations in which she cannot solve every problem. Luckily, she remembers God is in control and frequently goes to Him for help and guidance. She sees herself as unlovable, unworthy, and alone, which makes her think Alex will never actually love her and his motives for helping her are strictly related to his campaign. The characters learn about God through their experiences with each other and grow in their faith and understanding of God’s power as the story progresses. Lucy even learns God’s providence through the unlikeliest of people.

This novel is the perfect solution for a heart longing for a comedic romance. The mix of humor with everyday struggles drives the plot forward. Jones's clever writing style won me over in the first chapter. Loveable characters foil characters who initially seem ill-natured. I highly recommend this book to young adult women who appreciate wit and a delightful alternative to yet another unrealistic chick flick. – Diana Friend,

Publisher's Weekly

Jones's sassy style is merely one of this romance novelist's many endearing talents. Jones (Just Between You and Me) concocts a story line that, though implausible in real life, doesn't detract a bit from an engaging and funny tale that brings together two of the most unlikely love interests: Lucy Wiltshire, the independent and poor proprietress of a young women's transitional housing shelter, and Alex Sinclair, former NFL star, aspiring congressman, and wealthy co-owner of Sinclair Enterprises. Sparks fly when these two strong-minded individuals meet at a gala event and Alex's ratings rise after the gossip rags tag Lucy and Alex as a lovebird pair. Alex devises a scheme that will benefit both him and Lucy; the question is whether these two can see the plan through without killing one another first. Some subtle faith messages about trusting God despite painful pasts round out this fast-paced, lighthearted romantic escape. (Feb.)Copyright 2011 Reed Business Information.
