I’m coming home to prove something..to my city, my mother, and myself.

It is a place known to most as Savannah. It is a place known to me as home. I wish I could tell you it was my love for this city that precipitated my return. But I did not return out of a mere longing for home. I returned because I have something to prove to home. I am Savannah...from Savannah.

I am in a book club and suggested this book because of the reviews which stated that it was a laugh out loud book. I did not like it and If I wrote an article like Savannah did I would have been fired. I am from the south and found that it did not shine kindly upon them. I have never drank so much Coke under stress as Savannah. I like the book GEORGIA ON HER MIND better.

This was on of the best books that I've read in a long time. It was very funny and I enjoyed it a lot.

Savannah is an independent young woman whose beauty queen mom is something of a control freak, which creates quite a few chuckles and the occasional laugh-out-loud description. The book is full of the southern flavor you would expect with title like that, and the typical chick lit designer names are scattered liberally throughout the pages. At times the story’s tempo drags while the main character learns her lessons the hard way, but I forgave the occasional slow scene because Savannah is such a fun character. There were a few loose ends, which I assume the author will tie up in the sequel. Enjoyable, but if you don’t like Chick Lit you probably won’t get into this one.

Okay, where has this girl been? It's amazing to come across new authors with such witty, fresh voices. You'd think she had been doing this forever. Say hello to the Christmas gift for all my friends! Thanks Ms. Hildreth. You gave me a much needed and wonderful retreat.

Now, I know this is a very popular book, and I know many women have laughed hard at Savannah's antics. But I, personally, have to tell the truth - I did not even finish this book because I just couldn't get into it. I'm not sure I like Savannah all that much...I thought the things about here mother were a little extreme and far-fetched. And what's with Savannah calling her by her first name? I just never really got that. I think it's a good book for some people, but it just wasn't for me.

Every once in awhile, you read a story that makes you want to throw open your door and race down the street, waving the book wildly in the air while shouting, “You must read this!” at the top of your lungs. Savannah from Savannah is just such a book. Savannah from Savannah is the story of 24-year-old Savannah Phillips, a recent college grad, winning fiction novel contestant, and the long-suffering and ever-traumatized daughter of Victoria Phillips—Savannah, Georgia’s very own beauty queen and Chamber of Commerce prima donna. When Savannah learns that her mother—who has more influence than she has Kate Spade shoes—rigged her win of the ‘Fiction Achievement Award’, she decides drastic meddling calls for drastic countermeasures. She rejects the coveted publishing contract and returns to her hometown, to prove to her parents, her city, and herself, that she is someone who shouldn’t be messed with. Someone who’s someone, without her mother’s assistance. Someone who can write an unforgettable story all by herself, thank you very much. Savannah’s escapades in her grand quest for someone-hood, had me in absolute knots. I haven’t laughed so hard in ages, and certainly not while reading a book. Besides its unparalleled humor, great plot, and far-too-real-to-be-fictional characters, this story presents a well-drawn picture of one young woman’s coming of age, a number of spiritual insights that stay with you, and several thoughtful glimpses into the effects our choices have on the lives of others. Bottom line: Savannah from Savannah is worth more than you’ll pay for it, and Denise Hildreth is an author to watch in the coming years.

I loved this book. It got me from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. I want to see Savannah's victorian home, have a cup of coffee at Jake's Coffee Shop, pat Duke on the head and ride one of the trolley's where Victoria is incognito (or thinks she is). Walk through the park where Savannah kept running into the love she lost. Look forward to her weekly column. Just didn't want it to end and now I can't wait for the next one.
