If Rachel is dead: Can a parent forgive someone who has done the unthinkable?
Can David forgive himself?
If she's alive: Can David find her in time to save her?
Krause uses tragedy, suspense, a combination of first- and third-person points of view and flashbacks to take the reader on an engaging study of contrasts. Some characters deal with the results of unforgiving staunchness, while others find the freedom that forgiveness bestows. Consequences of taking ones own revenge play out alongside the fight to allow God to repay evil, as it says in Romans 12:19: Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for Gods wrath, for it is written: It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord. Krause uses true-to-life, flawed characters to impart lessons of commitment, loyalty, and the fight to do the right thing, in spite of the obstacles.
I highly recommend Salty Like Blood to anyone who enjoys suspense and/or mystery. I also recommend it to anyone who desires to read a book where the characters struggle with their human nature but ultimately make the right choices and where God, and justice, prevail in the end. You wont be disappointed. Nikki Studebaker Barcus, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Lillian Copeland5 Stars Out Of 5June 20, 2010Lillian CopelandThis is a wonderful book about forgiveness and letting God be God. Instead of seeking revenge ourselves, we should allow God to teach us to forgive, even when it is hard to forgive. I give this a 5 star rating. I really liked this book!
Michelle SuttonArizonaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5October 4, 2009Michelle SuttonArizonaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleSalty like blood is not your typical suspense novel. It's a story written with deep insight into the human soul and is one of the most emotionally moving suspense stories I've ever read. There is such a deep point of view and gut-wrenching honesty throughout the pages that it's totally engrossing. While I identified most with the main character, the husband, I found it easy to slip into other characters' points of view when needed. I appreciate that ease of transition in a novel. I also appreciated the painful memories that slowly came back and how well the author brought them in and out of the novel. I was so immersed in everything as I read along that I winced and held my breath along with the characters. That's great writing.I also loved how complex the plot was and how many twists and turns occurred that the unexpected kept me turning the pages late into the evening. This book is very hard to put down. It wasn't dark, though, despite the plot and the situations in the novel. I didn't feel depressed, just intrigued. And the thing with the Lupron drug totally cracked me up even though it was so wrong.I loved how real the author made these characters and how he kept me at the edge of my seat. The author had me sweating. Will she do it? Oh my goodness. He didn't just do that...what are they going to do next? How will they get out of this? And the mini-twists and the end made me smile because it's so like real life. The spiritual transition was not huge, but very real and very well-done. If you want to read a suspense that is not just a bunch of chasing scenes with little depth, then you will love this book. If you don't mind a hero who isn't afraid to cry when something truly hurts, you'll really enjoy this story. I loved it.
Jackie S.5 Stars Out Of 5May 28, 2009Jackie S.I ALWAYS enjoy Harry Kraus novels....have read them all. I loved this one and found it full of mystery as well as issues we all face...forgiveness, God's grace, and compassion. I wish he would write a sequel. I can't wait for his next book.
RuthClintonville, WIAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5April 28, 2009RuthClintonville, WIAge: Over 65Gender: femaleI like Harry Kraus novels. This one was very good. The ending was a surprise but a happy one. The book is quite a mix of medicine, marriage troubles, politics, and the ends that some people might go to to get elected.
Stacey4 Stars Out Of 5April 4, 2009StaceyHarry Kraus, M.D. has written a masterfully woven political thriller for the Christian market! Salty Like Blood is the story of a seemingly random act of kidnapping against a doctor and his wife who have traveled with their young daughter to care for the doctors ailing father. The opening pages of this novel begin a fast-paced thrill ride that doesnt end until the final page is turnedand still leaves you wondering what will happen next. The intelligence with which this incredibly thought-provoking story is told not only taught me a few vocabulary terms, but also inspired me to think. To say that this book entertained would be inaccurate. Although it did just that, it also made me appreciate my own family with all of its dysfunction.
