Here is the story of the historical Saint Nicholas, who was a servant of God. Through him, God's love was reflected to others. The story touches on the ministry of Nicholas and his generous gift of a dowry to three young girls as a response to God's love in Jesus. And it brings application to our own lives as we, too, respond with grateful hearts to God's great gift of love to us. Combining museum-quality artwork and family friendly language, this book clearly articulates how God showered His love upon us through Christ and helps children see that our own gift-giving is a grateful response to the sacrificial gift of God's Son. Recommended for ages 5 and up, 32 pages.

Lacking both the crisp style and substance of Demi's thorough introduction to
the saint (see above), Stiegemeyer's (Thanksgiving, noted above) effort
oversimplifies its subject. Here the author narrows the biographical focus to
one of Nicholas's legendary good deeds (he secretly leaves money for a needy
local family). Much of the text whips up an overly excited, teacherly tone
("However, God is even more generous and loving still!") and the most solid
information is contained in an author's note that begins "Dear Grown-up." The
white-bearded Nicholas's face, caught in moments of compassion and reverence,
dominates many of Ellison's (King of the Stable) realistic and technically
proficient paintings. Ages 5-up. (July) Copyright 2003 Reed Business

Reviewed by Friends Presch (Milford, MI), November 24, 2007 The book only talked about St. Nicholas's giving of the coins for the diaries of three sisters. I was hoping for more information to share with my students. 4.5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Mom of eight (North Carolina), December 30, 2006 I purchased this sweet book for my children for Christmas this year. I was skeptical...thinking it would be impossible to find the book I've been searching for eighteen years to find. My children were never taught "Santa Claus" was real so, "Santa, Are you for real? (another book)" wasn't what really fit our family. This book was perfect!! We all loved it! Write a review of Saint Nicholas: The Real Story of the Christmas Legend, Hardcover
