Sometimes it takes a stranger to see you as you really are.
Born and raised on sprawling Texas land, Margaret OBrien prides herself on her competence as a rancher. But her father believes shes made for more than just dawn-to-dusk work. He wants her to have the love of a good man, to raise children, to build a life. But Margaret gave up such dreams years ago. Shes convinced no man would have her, that the ranch is her life now.
So when Margarets father hires Daniel Cutler as a new foreman, shes frustrated and suspicious. Then an overheard conversation links him with a gang of bank robbers, and shes downright worried. Daniel swears hes not involved, but Margarets not convinced. She knows the man still has secrets. But would a criminal be so kind and talk so convincingly of his faith? As a series of tragic accidents threatens all she holds dear, Margaret must decide what to trust: her own ears, her best judgment . . . or what her heart keeps telling her.
From the author of the best-selling Blue Moon Promise . . . an exciting tale of danger, romance, and faith played out under Texas stars.
Romantically tense, but with just the right touch of danger, this cowboy love story is surprisingly cleverand pleasingly sweet. USAToday.com for Blue Moon Promise
ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5I devoured this book!January 16, 2014ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I devoured this book, much like I did the first one! Margaret O'Brien is a character any female can relate to. She is full of insecurities and doubts. To cover those insecurities, she's thrown herself into ranch work and earned the respect of the townspeople by her hard work and competence. She doesn't think anyone can have serious intentions towards her, not even the God she loves so much. Can Margaret overcome her insecurities to accept God's unconditional love? Daniel Cutler is the new foreman on the Triple T Ranch, much to Margaret's dismay. He stirs feelings in her that she doesn't understand because of his compassion, kindness, and loyalty. But he has secrets that he can't share with anyone. Can he do what he set out to do without destroying the woman he's fallen for?
The plot will grab your attention from the beginning. As soon as Daniel shows up on the ranch, strange "incidents" start happening. These incidents threaten all Margaret has worked so hard for and she is determined to get to the bottom of it, starting with Daniel's connection. Daniel is dismayed that he's brought danger to the ranch. As his feelings for Margaret grow, he becomes more determined to finish what he started so he can move on with his life, hopefully with the red-headed beauty. There are plot twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end and I loved every minute of it!
The message of the book begins and ends with learning to accept God's unconditional love. That's a hard message to get across in a society where love is conditional. Colleen Coble does an excellent job of weaving the message throughout the book, as she always does. She helps Margaret and the reader realize that you are safe in the loving arms of God, our father.
Overall, this was a fantastic book and I look forward to reading more from this fantastic author!
Britt98Grand Prairie, TXAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Danger and Romance in TexasJune 23, 2013Britt98Grand Prairie, TXAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Safe in His Arms is the second book in the Under Texas Stars series. This story follows Margaret O'Brien, only daughter of a successful rancher. Margaret has some pretty serious insecurities that hinder her relationships with others. She never feels that she measures up and views herself as unattractive. Enter Daniel Cutler, who has just been hired on as the new foreman to the ranch. He has some big secrets to hide. A natural attraction develops between the two. Daniel seems to love God and appears to truly believe Margaret is beautiful and the woman for him. But will this attraction be able to survive Margaret's insecurities and Daniel's secret? What is true and who is trustworthy? Colleen Coble does a good job at setting up a good, old-fashioned Western mystery novel. Only at the end of the novel is all truly resolved and are things made clear. I received a fee copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
The Happy ReaderColumbia, TNAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Thoroughly Enjoyable!May 9, 2013The Happy ReaderColumbia, TNAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is fiction with a purpose. And what a purpose it is.
Meet Margaret O'Brien, daughter of wealthy cattle rancher Paddy O'Brien who can only see her many faults.
Fiercely loyal, prickly, and stubborn (like any true redhead), Margaret must overcome many issues that keep her from believing that God can truly love a misfit such as she.
Margaret struggles with things that many young and more mature women today must face and deal with on a daily basis. We, who are naturally hard on ourselves, often forget that we were created without mistakes by a God who loves us ~ just as we are. It's up to us to embrace His will and plan for us to be truly happy.
This is a heartwarming tale. Fraught with danger and excitement, this book will steal your afternoon. And you may find yourself a better person for it.
My thanks to the publisher who provided me with a copy of this book to review in exchange for my honest opinions. These opinions are my own, and they are exactly what I think.
PatsdreamHuntsville, ALAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Murder, Bank Robbers, Secrets, AccidentsMay 2, 2013PatsdreamHuntsville, ALAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Margaret runs the ranch for her father but he thinks its time for her to be a "lady" and find a husband. He hires a new foreman. Over heard conversation casts doubts on the new foreman Daniel Cutler. Unexplained accidents, bank robberies, murder and other secrets. Can there be anyway for these two to fall in love with all the doubt and secrets? Colleen's faith, her sense of humor and her love of story telling really shines. For someone that didn't read westerns until last year, this was terrific.
wfnrenSt Cloud, FLAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Just as good as the first book in this series!April 18, 2013wfnrenSt Cloud, FLAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Margaret O'Brien was born and raised on a Texas ranch and lives with her father. Her mother was killed in a stampede and her brother was shot by Texas Rangers. Bank robberies are happening in the surrounding towns when her father hires a new foreman without telling her. This upsets Margaret because she has been the boss of the ranch for many years and has increased the value of it, why would her father do this to her. Not only has he hired Daniel Cutler, a stranger, he brings her cousin Lewis back and has changed his will leaving the ranch to Lewis with a huge amount of money to Margaret. He is also demanding that she start dressing and acting more like a lady, Margaret in a dress, she doesn't like that order at all.
Along with all the changes someone is trying to kill her father and snooping around the ranch. Just who is Daniel Cutler and what is he up to? Bank robberies, attacks on her father and he doesn't seem like a true cowboy, dresses to neat and no callouses, although he does seem to know what he's doing when it comes to ranch work. It seems like every time she turns around there he is, she even over hears conversations he's having with people she doesn't know and from what she's hearing she does not trust him. Is Daniel the one trying to kill her father, is it Calvin, one of the hands who seems to be holding a grudge about something, because surely it couldn't be Lewis or Vincente, Vincent is the maids son and was born and raised on the ranch as was Margaret?
I loved the first book in this series and this one was just as good. I really like Colleen's writing and it doesn't take me long to get through her books. Good, clean, a touch of romante and some old fashioned 'old west' action to boot!
