A valuable guide
September 19, 2011
Our women's covenant group used the Sacred Rhythms DVD and participant's guide as our introduction to Spiritual disciplines. We are using the book to further guide and teach us as we practice and implement these disciplines. We have been blessed by the teachings and God's gifting of Ruth Haley Barton.
I read this book on my own and went through it quite slowly because of the depth of it. It really spoke to my longing for a deeper walk with the Lord, a desire to hear his voice and to experience His peace in everyday life. I can't say enough about this book. I loved it!! I plan to read through it again to really incorporate these spiritual practices into my life. I would also like to do it as a study with my close girlfriends. I would not recommend it for a large group, as it lends itself to an intimate setting. If you have a longing for more of Christ in your life, and to know what it is to walk in the spirit, this book will help you. It's not about striving, or 'doing' devotions, it's about getting quiet with God and resting in his presence.
A great book that breaks down in steps how to deepen your relationship with Christ, how to open yourself up to him and create a new Rhythm between you and Him that works for YOU, perfect for anyone in any walk of life, any stage of their spiritual development.
From the first page, I felt the author understood the "busyness" of my work, family and church schedule. She provides disciplines that I could easily incorporate into my day. These calmed me during a time of difficult decisions and helped me to strengthen my relationship with God.
Get ready to draw closer to Christ! If you are "stuck in a rut" and want to have a stronger communication with the Lord and hear His voice, this book will truly revitalize your relationship with God. This book has drawn me closer to God and opened my heart to listen to Him in new ways. I read this in a small group study, but you can easily read it on your own.
