From bestselling author Lori Wick comes the moving second book in the Big Sky Dreams series. Sabrina Matthews, a young prostitute in the rough frontier city of Denver, is befriended by a police officer and his wife. Because of their kindness, she listens to what they have to say about Jesus and believes in Him. Sabrina stays with Danny and Callie until she’s ready to make a fresh start in a new town. She boards the train for the long trip to Token Creek in Montana Territory, where she meets Jeanette Fulbright and is befriended by the church family and many of the townsfolk there. All is well until she finds herself falling for Pastor Rylan Jarvik, who has begun to care for her as well. Will she be able to tell him about her past? How will Rylan respond? A moving novel about past mistakes and forgiveness—both from God and people.
Sabrina by Lori Wick is a sharing book. Some books you read once and quickly return to the library where you borrowed it from because it did not look good enough to buy. Others, you read again and again until the pages are worn thin from continuous exploration. But there exists a small number of books that, after reading, you have to pass them on in order that someone else can experience the life changing message found within. I have come across only a few books of this sort, and Sabrina is one of them.
Sabrina, the second novel in Lori Wick’s Big Sky Dreams series, contains yet another story of hope and faith that takes place mainly in Token Creek, Montana. This is the story of Sabrina “Bri” Matthews, a prostitute who can see no way out of the life she is in. It is a touching story about a woman torn from her life of sin and placed in a loving, encouraging church family. Out of nowhere, Danny Barshaw, a police officer in Denver, introduces Sabrina to a chance at a better life, one in Christ.
Arriving in Token Creek, Montana, in 1880, Sabrina is unsure of her new faith in Christ. Although her past is not a good one, she is surprised to find that God can still use her to reach out to others in similar situations. She becomes part of a strong church family and continues to grow spiritually throughout her time in Token Creek. Jeanette Fulbright, Rylan Jarvik, and Jessie Wheeler help provide physically, spiritually, and emotionally for Sabrina, and she slowly begins to feel as though she belongs there. They provide an example of living out James 5:19-20: “My brothers, if one of you wanders away from the truth and somebody brings him back, you may be sure that whoever brings a sinner back from his wrong path will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins” (ISV). A combination of fear, hope, suspense, and love helps to keep the pages turning.
Lori Wick uses wonderful character development to keep the reader interested in the lives of everyone involved. Each character has a unique personality and realistic thoughts and fears. I liked how Sabrina was not the only character to experience tough situations, because in real life everyone goes through rough times. Sabrina is definitely a Christian book, promoting Christian living from beginning to end, involving overcoming temptations and providing encouragement for others. Throughout there are examples of companionable strengthening through Bible studies and conversations that can be applied to modern-day life.
This is a very good book for women, both young and old, though some men might also enjoy it. If you or a friend is struggling with guilt from a past sin, or if you doubt your worth in God’s eyes, Sabrina is a great book. I highly recommend it. Nicole E. Dynes, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Reviewed by MJ (Georgia, USA), August 01, 2008 Forgiving oneself of their past sins is a difficult issue no matter what it is that you are guilty of. The story of a prostitute coming to Christ has been told. It was told in the Bible, it was told by Francine Rivers, it was told by Tamera Alexander, and now I've read it again from Lori Wick. But that is not saying oh, read it move on. Definitely not. The fact of hearing over and over again that no matter how bad you think your past actions have been, God loves you is incredible. The story of Sabrina is a wonderful one that did a great deal of good for my heart to read. I was less impressed with Cassidy (book #1), but Sabrina could very easily be read as a stand alone. Once upon a time, I had told a friend that I just could not forgive myself for something, even though I knew that Christ had forgiven me, his response was, so basically you're saying God's forgiveness is not enough? It was a shocking moment, and this book is equally as powerful to learning a little more about myself as well as enjoying a great story with romance, life lessons in scripture, with a little western action mixed in as well. I recommend it 5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Lynna Moreno (San Diego, CA), July 29, 2008 I thought the book was really good. It kept me intrigued and I couldn't put it down. I finished reading the book in about 4 days. It was great. Can't wait until I receive the 3rd one. 5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Wanda Webb (Auburn, CA), July 29, 2008 This book is as good as the first book Cassidy. I love the way Lori Wick intertwines all the families together. It makes you want to go and live with them. Her books always gloryfy God and teaches salvation. 4 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Laura Sizelove (Sunnyvale, CA), July 11, 2008 Another great Lori Wick book! A fun and sweet story that encourages your faith and your stereotypes of others. 4 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Sondra Faye Reedy (Shelbyville, TN), June 28, 2008 This was an easy read with a lot of scriptural passages and interpretations. It is so refreshing to read a good Christian-based love story that doesn't have to use all the lurid passages some writers think they have to use. 2.5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Manu (CA), June 08, 2008 The storyline was great, having God's unconditional redeeming love at the heart of the message. Overall though it was too slow, and I had to force myself not to abandon the book on numerous occasions. It took me about a month to read this book compared to the usual 1-2 days. The characters were thinly developed with meaningless "small talk" where much more subtance could have been given to their internal struggles.
For a far better story along the same lines see Francine River's "Redeeming Love". It is the best book I ever read in my entire life! View all 30 Reviews
