Because of their kindness, she listens to what they have to say about Jesus and believes in Him. Sabrina stays with Danny and Callie until shes ready to make a fresh start in a new town. She boards the train for the long trip to Token Creek in Montana Territory, where she meets Jeanette Fulbright and is befriended by the church family and many of the townsfolk there. All is well until she finds herself falling for Pastor Rylan Jarvik, who has begun to care for her as well. Will she be able to tell him about her past? How will Rylan respond? A moving novel about past mistakes and forgivenessboth from God and people. ChristianBookPreviewsSabrina by Lori Wick is a sharing book. Some books you read once and quickly return to the library where you borrowed it from because it did not look good enough to buy. Others, you read again and again until the pages are worn thin from continuous exploration. But there exists a small number of books that, after reading, you have to pass them on in order that someone else can experience the life changing message found within. I have come across only a few books of this sort, and Sabrina is one of them.
Sabrina, the second novel in Lori Wicks Big Sky Dreams series, contains yet another story of hope and faith that takes place mainly in Token Creek, Montana. This is the story of Sabrina Bri Matthews, a prostitute who can see no way out of the life she is in. It is a touching story about a woman torn from her life of sin and placed in a loving, encouraging church family. Out of nowhere, Danny Barshaw, a police officer in Denver, introduces Sabrina to a chance at a better life, one in Christ. Arriving in Token Creek, Montana, in 1880, Sabrina is unsure of her new faith in Christ. Although her past is not a good one, she is surprised to find that God can still use her to reach out to others in similar situations. She becomes part of a strong church family and continues to grow spiritually throughout her time in Token Creek. Jeanette Fulbright, Rylan Jarvik, and Jessie Wheeler help provide physically, spiritually, and emotionally for Sabrina, and she slowly begins to feel as though she belongs there. They provide an example of living out James 5:19-20: My brothers, if one of you wanders away from the truth and somebody brings him back, you may be sure that whoever brings a sinner back from his wrong path will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins (ISV). A combination of fear, hope, suspense, and love helps to keep the pages turning. Lori Wick uses wonderful character development to keep the reader interested in the lives of everyone involved. Each character has a unique personality and realistic thoughts and fears. I liked how Sabrina was not the only character to experience tough situations, because in real life everyone goes through rough times. Sabrina is definitely a Christian book, promoting Christian living from beginning to end, involving overcoming temptations and providing encouragement for others. Throughout there are examples of companionable strengthening through Bible studies and conversations that can be applied to modern-day life. This is a very good book for women, both young and old, though some men might also enjoy it. If you or a friend is struggling with guilt from a past sin, or if you doubt your worth in Gods eyes, Sabrina is a great book. I highly recommend it. Nicole E.
