Jerry White's 52 Rules to Live By shows readers how to live more pleasurable, organized and successful lives. The short book consists of 52 chapters grouped into three sections: A Better You, Relationship Rules, and Enhancing Your Work and Effectiveness. While the book covers obvious principles such as organization, communication, and faith, it also addresses some less common ideas. For example, White stresses that people should strive to be both losers and winners. A successful life should strike a balance between the two extremes. White also emphasizes the importance of reading, writing, and even doing some things poorly.

52 Rules to Live By is a great book. These sections can be read straight-through or in a random order. Since the chapters do not have to be read in order, White does repeat himself at times. Several times in the book, White recounts the same stories from his days in the Air Force. He also repeatedly states his love for playing handball, which I found somewhat humorous because it shows how much he truly loves the game. Although the chapters are short and the writing style casual, the lessons are influential and valuable. I will definitely take White's advice and implement one his techniques into my life each week. I highly recommend this book to others.

Are you looking for a new devotional for yourself or to give as a gift? You will definitely want to check out Jerry White's "Rules to Live By: 52 Principles for a Better Life". Mostly, it's a common sense guide to how to live life—the rules are simple and they work—that's the author's guarantee.

The book is divided into three sections—A Better You, Relationship Rules and Enhancing Your Work and Effectiveness. You will find guidelines on how to take care of yourself, your emotions and your relationships. You will find tips on how to work more effectively and the benefits of working hard.

You can read them in order or skip around to whatever you're dealing with at the time. You can use as a discussion point in a small group or at the dinner table. It is a perfect gift for a graduate or a grandparent. Don't forget to read the forward by Ken Blanchard and the introduction.

In A Better You, you will learn to think, concentrate, be a winner and a loser. You will learn the value of remembering your past, wasting time and keeping physically fit. In Relationship Rules, you will discover how being real and being available can strengthen your friendships. You will also learn how to make and keep close friends. In the final section, Enhancing Your Work and Effectiveness, the author discusses how to compete but not be competitive and focus on contribution rather than position. There is a time to work hard, but there is also a time to do some things poorly or just leave them undone.

I loved this book - it was a quick read and I loved every minute! In fact, I'm going to re-read it this weekend!

Dr. Jerry White has crammed many gems into this book, so many relevant to me personally (especially the advice on forgiveness and letting go of grudges). I have struggled for years with certain family relationships, mostly due to me being hurt over and over again. Rules to Live By reminded me of the importance of letting go of that pain and moving on.

I also loved how straight-forward his writing style is and very casual. It's as though he is having a chat with you and telling you like it is, friendly and wise. The author reminds us to "lose" certain things, to "love", to "slow down", to "work on your marriage", and more. All excellent advice and the that he writes, I was thinking to myself, "I can do this" and "I know I can do that, too!".

I will definitely be passing this book along to another dear soul that I know will benefit. I highly recommend this book as a gift as well!
