This commentary is a non-technical (does not require a knowledge of biblical languages) abridgment of C.E.B. Cranfield's highly acclaimed two-volume commentary on Romans in the International Critical Commentary series. Following a brief introduction, Cranfield provides section-by-section and verse-by-verse commentary on Romans, based on his own translation.
The unabridged form of this work is included in John Glynn's (Commentary and Reference Survey) list of recommended resources, the Ultimate Commentary Collection.
C. E. B. Cranfield (1915-2015) served as an army chaplain in World War II, as a pastor to prisoners of war, and as a minister before teaching theology for thirty years at the University of Durham (1950-1980). He is also the author of well-received commentaries on Mark and 1 and 2 Peter and Jude.
