This commentary was highly recommended to me by my pastor. In his opinion, Barnhouse's commentary is one of the finest works on the Book of Romans. I recently finished a study on Romans chapter one, specifically verse 16. I found Barnhouse's work to be an in-depth examination of the Apostle Paul's letter. His commentary of verse 16 was a word-by-word study. I found myself reading some sections multiple times, not for lack of understanding, but just for the pleasure of Barnhouse's amazing insight. I would highly recommend this commentary to persons of all levels of biblical understanding. I am not a seminary graduate nor have I attended bible college, yet I found this an easy to understand commentary, written in elegant language seldom used in todays pulpits.

When it comes to the content of this book, its excellences can not be over stated. Barnhouse does a wonderful job of going through each verse of the book.

You can tell that this is an exposition for preachers. There are all types of application "golden nuggets" within each volume.

If you are looking for something technical, this is not the work for you; however, if you want something devotional this is a must have. I am currently teaching through Romans, and I find myself going to this work time and time again.

My only complaint is that the binding could be better. The spine is glued and therefore, the pages will not lay flat. You have to keep them flat while reading, which can get old really fast.

The font is very easy to read, and plenty big enough. The pages are nice and thick, so you can highlight and underline without worry of bleedthrough. There are some print issues were some parts are lighter than others.

Overall I think this is a must have for those needing a devotional commentary on Romans

Could not recommend these commentaries more. If I could only take with me a box full of books, this set would be in that box.My favorite commentaries on the book of Romans. Goes much more beyond just the book of Romans. He has so much insight in every verse and into the grace of God. Free grace oriented. Thanks be to God.If you like the people from Dallas Seminary (like J. Vernon McGee), you will like these commentaries. He is in the style of J. Vernon McGee, but goes deeper.

DGB took years to preach through Romans, and this is the written version of his messages. I bought the set years ago and highly recommend it. In addition to being a good collection of messages on Romans, it shows Barnhouse's wonderful knack of illustration. Great example of this quality for teachers and preachers.
