Publisher's Description

Robert Griffin III exploded onto the NFL scene with a style and flair anything but typical. With a Heisman Trophy on his mantel, RG3 entered professional football in 2012 under a spotlight that glowed beyond his own team, the Washington Redskins. Could the Baylor graduate electrify the NFL as he had the college game? Could he return a fabled franchise to the realm of elite Super Bowl contenders?

Author Ted Kluck deepens the reader’s connection to a man who became the face of a revered NFL franchise before his twenty-third birthday. One player fueled by infectious enthusiasm for his craft. One man whose authenticity somehow seems to match his otherworldly skills on the gridiron. RG3’s focus on victory stood second only to the wisdom of his father: “Remember faith first.”

Kluck follows RG3’s career from the very beginning. In addition, he dives into RG3’s relationships with and comparisons to players such as Tim Tebow, Michael Vick, Marcus Lattimore, Kyle Shanahan, Randall Cunningham, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and more.

Robert Griffin III’s story surpasses standings and statistics. Succeeding as a professional athlete is a challenge of the first order. Thriving as a cross-cultural phenomenon is the foundation of legends.

I am probably the most unqualified person to be reviewing this book about football. I am a mom who has never played nor watched much football. Sad I know. I am a Hoosier who lived in Bronco land for five years. They won their 2 Super Bowls when I lived there...very exciting, especially for my husband who is a die hard Bronco fan. He has fond memories of Mile High Stadium with his grandparents who were season ticket holder for years!

This year my 7th grader is playing football, which he hasn't done since 3rd grade. So he is in whole new territory. He is not a starter on his team, and he is okay with this. He goes to practice, stands on the sidelines with his friends, and once in a blue moon steps foot on the field during a game.

I have also recently become obsessed with Friday Night Lights on Netflix! I watched 2 episodes on a lazy Saturday afternoon and cannot stop watching it. I am almost done with the second season.

Here is what I learned from the book Robert Griffin III about football...

*2012 was a great year to be drafted in the NFL.

*The Washington Redskins are totally counting on RG3 to win them a Super Bowl.

*RG3 will never be a rookie again.

*"Draft history would dictate that over 50% of the quarterbacks drafted in the first round each year are busts, meaning either Rober Griffin or Andrew Luck could potentially be an NFL washout"

There is a ton of information about football in this book. History, statistics, facts about other players, and comparisons. However, there is almost no information about faith.

Now that I have read this book, I am sure going to have to look at the Washington Redskins and their league record this year. I enjoyed how the author ends this book...

"And whether Robert Griffin III takes the NFL by storm, or whether he underwhelms long-term because of an injury or some other reason, I'll remember his rookie year fondly. And I'll miss it, because he'll never be new again."

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for my review. The opinions are mine.

I love football. I'll admit it. And I have people in my house who love it too.

In the past year, I have heard of RG3 or Robert Griffin III. I have heard of what a great quarterback he is. So I decided to read the latest biography on him by Ted Kluck. I thought I knew quite a bit about football, but the truth is, after reading this book, I knew didley squat.

Ted Kluck does a great job on writing about this sport in laymen's terms so those of us who thought we knew football, but really don't can now understand it in a deeper way. I learned much of how the sport works, not necessarily just about play by play on the field, but the underworkings of the sports world.

I also, felt like I had the opportunity to get to know RG3 too. He is a man of integrity. That's the biggest statement made by the writing of this book. He is identified as a believer as well. These go hand in hand, but I would have liked to hear more of his spiritual journey than his football journey.

We have outspoken, verbal believers in the football world like Tebow. We also need those who walk the walk in such a way not much needs to be said in public. This is the testimony of Robert Griffin III. Hopefully, he will be known for a long as a quiet, strong man who puts his faith into action.

Robert Lee Griffin III (nicknamed RG3) is an American football quarterback for the Washington Redskins in the NFL. Griffin played college football for Baylor University, where he won the 2011 Heisman Trophy. He was selected by the Redskins with the second pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. In 2012 Griffin won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Personally I know next to nothing about Football, let alone Griffin. But picking up the book as a Christian, I at least expected it to be somewhat about Griffin and how his faith affects his role as a quarterback - or as the title suggests, something perhaps about leadership. But I didn't really get that from this book.

The book was written by Ted Kluck and for what it's worth, even the author admits that maybe Griffin's "rookie year" isn't the best time to be offering a book about this great player - and after reading it, I think I'd agree. It felt like the author was looking for content to fill a page requirement for the publisher. There is plenty in the book that isn't even about Griffin, but rather about the "role" the quarterback plays on the team.

I think the book lost it for me in how it was marketed. I think this book could have been about "Kingdom Living" and how no matter what we do - we can be missional in our field of work or play. I think the book could have used football and even Griffin's career as a backdrop illustration and that way the reader would not have been confused into thinking it was a biography. And in a way - that's what this book is! And if you take it like that - it's a really neat book.

Would I recommend it as a book about leadership? Football or even as a biography about Griffin's life? No, but I would recommend it as a book about how each of us plays a roll in the Kingdom of God.

When I read the inside flap of this one, I got to worrying that the reader would have to be a football buff. My concerns were well-founded. There is very little about Christian faith in these pages. The first chapter that even refers to it is chapter 10: "God and Quarterbacking: Faith, Prosperity, and Pro Football." And it's only 8 pages long. I did learn that Griffin makes the sign of the cross when he takes the field, even though he's not Catholic.

In the foreword, Hall-of-Famer (I guess) Jim Kelly says of Kluck, "Ted is clearly a student of football, and his passion for the game is visible throughout these pages. He breaks down film. He crunches numbers. He takes what is in many ways a difficult subject - a rookie quarterback who is still largely unproven - and provides shape and context to what Griffin has done and what he's capable of; and he does it respectfully, with a perspective on what the men who have quarterbacked before him have done." Oh boy.

This book does not belong on a parish library shelf, and I'm puzzled as to why BookSneeze even offered it. You won't be inspired. Maybe it's why I ditched Tim Tebow's book early. Like Fearless, this one'll be donated to a good, more suitable home. I've told my buddy to offer it to someone at his fantasy football draft, which took place yesterday.

I received this book for free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com (http://BookSneeze®.com> book review bloggers program.
