Publisher's Description

When Samuel Kirkland comes to live with the Seneca, Young-Wolf is livid. He is sure that

the Englishman wants to steal from his people or destroy their way of life. The stories that

Kirkland tells of Hawenio, the Great Good Voicethey must be lies, intended to trick

the Seneca into doing the white man's will.

Young-Wolf hopes to join an elite band of fighters led by the tribe's chief warrior, Captain; but

when the white man's presence ruins that plan, Young-Wolf decides to spy on Kirkland until

he finds some fault worthy of death. As he watches and waits, he begins to wonderwhat

if Samuel Kirkland's stories are true? Christian fiction.

Young-Wolf doesnt like intruders, and English missionary Samuel Kirkland is not an exception to the rule. While visiting the Seneca in Ganundasaga during a famine year, Samuel Kirkland runs into Young-Wolf when he becomes part of the young mans family during his stay. While visiting, his life is put in danger, but will Young-Wolf step in and help? The author, Denise Williamson, did a wonderful job at bringing this true story to life for her young readers. The characters were well developed and resembled the real-life story of Samuel Kirkland. I felt that the dialogue was believable, as well as the plot, simply because it sounded like a conversation that would have happened. The book does contain pictures, which I feel are appropriate to the story in giving a visual picture of the ongoing action. I enjoyed this book because of the history it portrayed, and thought it was worth reading, if only for the historical information.
