Children love the soothing sound of rhyme! And now they can enjoy thirty-five delightful, classic Bible stories retold in lilting verse and rollicking, read-aloud rhyme in this new updated edition of The Rhyme Bible Storybook. From the story of creation, to the resurrection of Jesus, this is the perfect choice for parents who want to introduce their children to the Word of God. Updated and vivid illustrations by Laurence Cleyet-Merle breathe new life into a previously successful storybook Bible in the popular Rhyme brand. The Rhyme Bible Storybook is certain to become a well-worn favorite!
Laurence Cleyet-Merle grew up in a green countryside near Switzerland where she always enjoyed drawing. She is a graduate of the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg. Laurence uses acrylic, collage, and gouache in her colorful illustrations. She currently lives in the sunny town of Marseille, France with her family.

I give 5 stars to both L.J. Sattgast and L.C. Merle, they did an excellent job for sure. Destined to be a family favorite, the book is smooth to touch, pages are glossy and thickened, cover and spine looks sturdy enough. For the price you get fantastic narration and illustration.
I had a chance to preview chapter 1 and I knew I just had to get a copy. There are 35 stories, just the right ones that a small child needs to learn. Sattgast's rhymes are not exaggerated, never strained, as they flow easily with the right pulse and drama. The words used can be easily understood by a child aged 4-7, and at the right length, too.
I can't help but compare this to Sattgast's older edition of the book, which I regrettably purchased after buying this. The children don't pay attention, and I suspect it's largely due to the illustration and overall appearance of the older version book. This puts L.C. Merle in the limelight for me, because she set the standards way up too high that every spread of the book is a poster in itself, which takes the happiness in reading the book even further. I absolutely love her gorgeous choice of colors, her spectrum of colors is way beyond my expectations. Her toned down hues are splendid, most pleasing to the eyes. This is rather important because most readings to children are done at night when eyes are tired and you wouldn't want bold colors to be screaming at you. Even her gradation techniques with the right intensity at the right places give it full drama. My attention has also been caught with the use of a boldly colored red title on the cover, and when light hits the mark you get a shocking but pleasing effect. Not something I often see in other books.
I also appreciate that the book includes the story of Nehemiah building the wall. I myself had already forgotten about him and his story, because a lot of bible storybooks focus on the perennial favorites Adam, Abraham, Joseph, Daniel, etc.
So how does this compare with My Read and Rhyme Bible Storybook by Crystal Bowman? The narrations are definitely shorter, the font size is bigger and bolder, and has a far more decent and very gratifying illustration.
This is strictly a storybook in rhyme, and I mean to say there are no suggested activities, questions to talk about, etc. that other books have. You have 35 stories to share in 3 years, give or take, beginning with creation and ending in Christ's resurrection. Fair enough, with superb illustrations and delightful narration, you can't go wrong.
