I really enjoyed this book. I was not expecting this book to be so spiritually edifying. I was expecting more of a history. However, some of the quotes from the ministers involved in the revivals were refreshing to my soul. Iain Murray does a good job of letting the people involved speak for themselves. He is fast becoming one of my favorite authors.

This book is irresponsible, at best. Ian Murray has, once again, used one of his books as a cloak to tout Calvinism rather than deal with the subject insinuated by the title. Several times he lies about Charles Finney--a common practice among, not all, but far too many Calvinists. I do not condone all that Finney did, but I refuse to lie about him in order to support my views. This book should have been titled, 'Calvinism vs. the Rest of the Christianity.' There was, however, only a small explanation of what Murray sees as the difference between Calvinism & 'Arminianism.'

This book should be required reading for every minister of the gospel. It's pages should anger every Christian at the way true Revival history has been covered up by mainstream American Christianity. Murray wonderfully presents the reason why American religion is so fake and flabby today. This book should set our hearts ablaze with the cry "Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens and come down" from Isaiah 64. Soli Deo Gloria!
