Product Description

Gifted teens known as Remnants have been chosen and trained to act as humanity's last hope to rectify the horrors that are now part of everyday life in 2095. The Community has trained these teens as warriors and assigned them Knights of the Last Order as protectors; together they are a force that will be difficult to bring down. The Sons of Sheol, of course, are hell bent on doing just that.

Publisher's Description

Our coming was foretold by the elders— Those who would change the future, just as the planet teetered on the edge of darkness.

Born on the prophesied day with birthmarks in the form of a crescent moon, they knew us immediately. Swaddled and screaming, we were spirited away by those who hid us, trained us, and kept us safe until our time came.

They poured their lives into us. Some died to save us.

And now we, the Remnants, protected by Knights of the Last Order, have gathered.

Called until we breathe our last … to save the world.

Editorial Reviews

Remnants: Season of Wonder opens years after the world has been ravaged by war and disease. Modern conveniences are a luxury, and, tragically, acknowledgement of the Maker is a crime. It is into this world that a special group of children, called “Ailith,” are born. The Maker gives the Ailith children a special birthmark as well as gifts that will be used to deliver mankind from the oppression that has overtaken them. Each Ailith has a bodyguard, and they spend their whole life training for the day when the Maker will call them to fulfill their duties. Andriana is Ailith, and Remnants is her story. It is the story of her missions with the other Ailith, her relationship with her bodyguard Ronan whom she loves, and her expanding knowledge of her Maker. This dystopian fantasy by Lisa T. Bergren is the first in a trilogy about the Ailith fulfilling a prophecy given long ago by the elders. Bergren is a master storywriter who can not only pack the plot with action, but also create well-developed characters. The characters face trials faced by many teens, including forbidden relationships. Andriana and Ronan were told in the beginning of their training that they were never to love each other as more than siblings, but over time, their feelings for each other have grown. Throughout the book, they develop their special gifts and learn to trust the Maker and follow his guidance. In addition to that, they learn they must also lean on the Maker to check their feelings for each other, though they do not always remember to do so as the temptation to kiss and express their feelings for each other grows. There is one use of mild language. Though the times of this book are bleak, there is hope that the Maker has not forgotten, has a plan, and is working all things together for good. Lisa T. Bergren in her new book, Seasons Of Wonder Book One in Remnants series published by Blink introduces us to Andriana.

From the back cover: Our coming was foretold by the elders Those who would change the future, just as the planet teetered on the edge of darkness.

Called until we breathe our last to save the world.

In the future, rather than continuing to evolve, things have regressed to the past. Technology has devolved so that there is more of a Medieval Times feel to it than a futuristic feel. The world is in chaos. There are The Sons Of Sheol to deal with as well as demonic forces and other enemies. For us there are only the little band of Remnants. This group battles the darkness and stands for the Light. Dri and Ronan are such marvelous characters that we identify with and care for right away. Plus there is that superb supporting cast that are also a lot of fun. Ms. Bergren immediately brings us into this new world and we want to help save it. Plus did I mention there is romance? Take the phone off the hook as you are not going to want to be bothered while you are reading. What a great way to start a new series! I am already looking forward to the next book.

My 13 year old is a HUGE Lisa Bergren fan. This book did not disappoint.

She loved how Lisa kept to her medieval fan base with a dystopian book. Her twist on this book is that in the future, things have regressed to the past. Technology has devolved. And life has changed.

From page one you bound into Andriana's story -- one that removes her from any semblance of a normal life. Andriana and her kin are off to save what's left of the world from a tyrant while saving his brother. On the way they must rally others to the fight. Andriana knew that she was destined to be a warrior. Now the day has arrived. My daughter loved the romantic storyline and the journey to find her kin. Along the way Andriana learns that love conquers all obstacles. My daughter loved the choosing to take that step and going deeper even as the heroine helps save the world.

This book is one that readers of hero's calling books will love -- especially if set in a dystopian framework.

In the ruins of a once prosperous world, Adriana—one of few select Remnants: extraordinary teens with extraordinary gifts—has finally received the Call, which will take her far from her humble home in the ever-rainy Valley. Alongside her life-long friend and knight, Ronan, Adriana joins with other Remnants and their new, fearless leader Raniero who seems to have special abilities of his own. Pursued by the dark forces of Pacifica, confronted by new challenges and fears daily, the Remnants and their Knights must learn to trust in the Maker as he leads them farther and farther into enemy territory.

Remnants: Season of Wonder by Lisa Bergren has once again become a romance novel to capture the tomboy's eyes. After falling in love with the world Gabbi, Leah, Luca, and Marcello in Bergren's River of Time series, I was eager to meet the newest additions to Mrs. Lisa's "merry gathering." While I cannot claim that Remnants: Season of Wonder was as great as the River of Time series, Lisa Bergren was able to convincingly establish a fantasy-dystopian realm with new ideas and lots of thrills. At any given time, Bergren can make you laugh, gasp, or cry out, and it was an adventure in itself just to read.

The Strengths: Remnants had very strong, relatable characters, a convincing romance, and one of the best embodiments of the struggles of leadership that I have experienced. As a leader myself, I identified often with Raniero's burden as the protector and guide to the group. Bergren captured the "whole" picture of leadership and allowed for the reader to see that just because you are a leader, you aren't perfect. Even more important, the life of a leader must be one led with total faith in God (or the Maker, as He is called in the book), a willingness to endure hardships for the betterment of the group, and an overwhelming mindset of self-sacrifice. I also appreciated the allegory that was present in the book and hope that the readers will see that develop more and more as the series progresses.

The Weaknesses: My main critiques of Remnants are the sometimes overly simple world building as well as the romance, which slipped into cliché every so often. Many times, I felt like the world could have been made more original if the names and places in it were less plain. In the same way, "the Community" and "the Maker" seemed a little underdeveloped. Although it wasn't a major problem, I felt like the world could have been constructed with more dips and crannies than presented. Along the same lines, I felt like the love story bordered on cliché several times with the idea of Adriana falling in love with her protector and the idea of forbidden love.

All things considered, I enjoyed the book immensely and feel it deserves every bit of four stars. I can't wait to read the next book and continue watching the world of Remnants take shape, and I would recommend this book to anyone who has a flair for adventure and romance.

This book was not like most dystopian novels I have read. It was a bit of a dark concept, but at the same time it was wholesome and good. It reflects plenty on a religious aspect and idea. Not something authors tend to write about, yet it was beautifully set up.

My favorite thing to read in Lisa's books is the dialogue! Lisa really knows how to emotionally connect the reader to each character. I can already tell this series has potential to grow from this book to the second book. If anyone is unsure about reading this book, DON'T! Give it a shot and you'll understand where I'm coming from.
