Product Description

Maggie Anderson comes to a realization as she is being carjacked: she is more afraid of the abusive boyfriend for whom she is picking up alcohol than the carjacker. In this moment, Maggie understands that she can let her life stagnate where it is, or she can stand up for herself and her freedom. In order to be free, she must leave behind and forget everything about her old life and begin anew.

Trevor Ashlock is another person trying to forget, in the small town of Clayburn, Kansas.

Will God's love, grace, and forgiveness be able to eradicate the past, or will Maggie and Trevor be able to come to terms with their devils and start over again? Deborah Raney, softcover, 355 pages.

Publisher's Weekly

Rita Award-winning novelist Raney (Beneath a Southern Sky) pens a lackluster romance that never quite takes off. Maggie Anderson leaves behind an abusive boyfriend in New York and strikes out for new territory. Taking the pseudonym "Meg," she finds refuge in Clayburn, Kans., population 1,250. The proprietors of the Wren's Nest Inn are as cute as Mr. and Mrs. Claus (and, predictably, twice as sweet) as they help Maggie get back on her feet. Handsome Trevor Ashlock still mourns the loss of his wife and young son, but it won't be a surprise to readers that Meg may be the ticket to his recovery. But first, she has to come clean about her past. Trouble spots include characters that are never fully developed and a thin plot line. Meg spends too much time wringing her hands over her past and her lies, while the long-suffering Trevor is almost saintly as he never loses patience or makes demands. The wordy, sentimental prose often falls into romantic clich s; "Being here like this, with Trevor, made her feel something she'd never felt before." The ending, despite its intended drama, feels far-fetched. While readers may appreciate the hopeful themes of unconditional love, faith and forgiveness that run through the book, the plot and characterizations don't meet Raney's usual standards. In one terrifying moment, Maggie Anderson is a victim of carjacking. After a harrowing drive, she finds herself stranded far away from her New York City home. Faced with the prospect of returning to an abusive boyfriend, Maggie decides to turn West and run further away. She ends up in Clayton, Kansas, and there attempts to reinvent herself, creating a brand new life. Although she befriends people who care for her, even a man who could love her, Trevor Ashlock, her secrets and lies torment her.
Deborah Raney has written a novel of God’s unfailing mercy to forgive and forget our sins. This multi-layered novel symbolically presents such spiritual truths as God’s sovereignty, mercy, providence, and forgiveness. The reader experiences these truths as she reads of Maggie’s struggles and triumphs.
Remember to Forget is a novel that reminds its readers how God has forgotten all our sins, made us a new creation, and continues to hold us in the palm of His hand. And who doesn't need to be reminded? I'd recommend it to any reader who seeks a second chance. – Vasthi Acosta, Christian Book
