Amy Schmid5 Stars Out Of 5June 25, 2008Amy SchmidExcellent!! I could imagine every scene she painted with her words. After reading Pieces of Silver, I was not sure I would like to read more about Josef but the story was wonderful. It is so touching and powerful.I have read several others of her books and they are excellent as well. Highly recommend her books and cannot wait for any more to come from her.

Tell us a little about yourself. I consider myself a reader who likes to read so much I have characters floating around in my head that need to be recorded. I write to have something to "read" all the time, like when I drift off to sleep, am stopped at a stoplight, cooking dinner...Maybe that's why I'm not such a great cook, my mind is elsewhere! Besides gifting me with a passion for writing, the Lord has given me a wonderful family to take care of. My husband and three kids have often been the inspiration behind an aspect or two of several characters. One of my kids has Fragile X Syndrome, a form of genetic mental retardation, so I'm busy!
What was your motivation behind this project? Remember Me is the sequel to Pieces of Silver, which is set during one of my favorite time periods. In an early draft of Pieces of Silver, Josef's character was supposed to die. Problem was, I absolutely could not kill off the guy, I liked him too much. So I gave him a book of his own - Remember Me. I chose the setting because of my grandparents, who told me about how life was for them during this time. My Grandfather fought in the Army during World War One and was shipped over to France on the USS Magnolia, which is the ship I put Josef on. I just have to smile when I see that ship in print, imagining my character talking to my grandfather...okay, now you know why I may be called a daydreamer. I think most writers are!
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope to entertain readers but to do it in a way that brings attention to the Lord. It's so important to really know why we believe what we believe, which was why I liked Josef's character so much. He had to explore what he believed and why.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I have so many favorites it's hard to bring one to mind that is more meaningful than all the others. I love to read and lately I've been reading Athol Dickson, Nancy Moser, Susan May Warren. I'm always inspired by books where everything fits, everything is there for a reason, all carried by words that just "click."
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I pray you'll be blessed by not only my stories but by so many wonderful, God-honoring novels out there. There's nothing like being touched emotionally by words on a page. I don't know about you, but some characters stay with me for years. Many stories I've read have helped point me in the right direction, reminding me to depend on the Lord for truth and guidance. If a story can entertain AND do that...I think the Lord is pleased by the writer and the reader who chooses to fill their mind with things that honor Him.
