Don Browning, in this book, attempts to uncover the ethical and metaphysical horizon of some of the major contemporary psychotherapeutic psychologies. He analyzes the implicit principles of obli gation and the deep metaphors embedded in and around the conceptual systems of these psychologies. He also advances a critique of these dimensions of the modern psychologies. This critique is informed by the ethical and metaphysical resources of the Jewish and Christian religious traditions.
