Product Description

The first step in improving your relationships is to take a look at yourself - your motives, your strengths, your weaknesses, your character. By working on specific areas of your life, you can improve how you interact with others, and in turn, how they interact with you. The Relationship Project will challenge you to examine your self-control, humility, work, faithfulness, and wisdom, as you allow God to manage these qualities. Each chapter includes self-assessments and discussion questions for use in personal reflections or with a small group.

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I teach relational communication at a Christian college and have been married 26 years to my wife, a career coach. We have three adult sons and enjoy healthy relationships with them as well with friends and colleagues. My hope is that The Relationship Project may give you insights to relating you may not have encountered before.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I wrote The Relationship Project because I was tired of reading formulas for good relationships often found on the internet, or special words that are suppose to guarantee happiness. I have become more certain that God wants us to work less on technique and more on character, for out of the overflow of the heart our behavior will follow.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope you will see that the virtues of self-control, humility, hard work, committed faithfulness, and wisdom serve as redeeming qualities to transform our souls and thereby our close relationships.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  More and more I believe there are no quick fixes, no "out there" soul mates, not one person who can make us happy. My research from Scripture and science convinced me we need to lean on God to develop character after Jesus, and from that spiritual core we will have the resources to trust and love those closest to us.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I hope the self-assessment scales and chapter-end questions will help you understand yourself and your relationships, and in some way bring you closer to God so you may draw nearer to spouse, friends, and colleagues.
