Days that you may feel are uncertain, hopeless, and you just don't know how you will get out of bed and face the day. Where Will You Go From Here? teaches resilience and how to walk through the rest of our lives with our chin up, with a positive attitude, and it will encourage us to approach life with a Godly attitude which will guide us to becoming triumphant in all of life's situations. You will find many real life stories as well as examples from the author's life. As Valorie reminds us in Chapter 5, "You can climb your way out of the ditch in a calm, steadfast manner, or you can waste precious energy by kicking and screaming your way out. Yes, either way you'll make it out, but climbing out calmly is a lot less stressful."

Eva ScottGreensboro, NCAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Guide to Help you through Difficult TimesAugust 26, 2011Eva ScottGreensboro, NCAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5There are 12 chapters in this book and a very good coaching guide at the end of the book. It is a very in-depth book to help you work through a traumatic event in your life such as divorce, death of a child, tragic debilitating accident, etc.
Valorie uses stories from her personal life, quotes from the Bible, and gives examples of how people used the methods she is teaching. She ends each chapter with a prayer asking God to help you with what that chapter teaches.
She weaves the analogy of landing in a ditch after a wreck she had to explain problems you face in life, and what you have to do to get out of that ditch to explore things to do to get your life back to working for you. She starts off asking you to make five basic commitments which she brings back to mind throughout the book with examples of people who have faced daunting challenges. Valorie says: "Make this a season of growth. Consider how your story has shaped you for the better. Use your experience to help others_.I'm convinced that, through the adversities of your life, God is developing something valuable in you and through you."
She mentions research by Richard Tedeschi and Dr. Lawrence Calhoun termed "posttraumatic growth," and says their research has found, "In the aftermath of life crisis—some seismic shift in circumstances—some people emerge from the dust stronger than before."
She gives encouragement to process your experience through writing or going through the coaching guide using the questions she has at the end of her book with someone who is nonjudgmental.
The coaching questions can also be used when you work with others to process a traumatic experience or in a small group setting.
Valorie goes on to say, "God's power at work within us isn't just about His helping us on our own journeys but about His using us to help others. He wants to use your experience to deepen your ability to love and serve the people He brings into your life."
She says when we share our story we overcome pride, privacy, and pity. She states that when we are private about the struggles we have gone through we keep God from getting the glory of how he has worked in our lives, and helps others to stop hiding the pain they are going through, to help them get the help that they need. She uses 2 Corinthians 5:20 to state that we are Christ's ambassadors and that we show God's work in our lives by sharing these things. Your pain can help the world be better, that it is not just about you.

Milk Donor MamaOhioAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Encouraging and WarmJune 9, 2011Milk Donor MamaOhioAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5Where Will You Go from Here by Valorie Burton is an advice / self-help / personal growth book with a Christian perspective.
Burton uses a combination of personal stories in her own life, interviews and Scripture to help the reader navigate through challenging situations and unexpected events in life.
My favorite piece of advice in this book is "Don't stare at closed doors". These words of wisdom resonated with me, because I have a (strong) tendency to do this. I also ruminate, which is a variation on staring at closed doors.
This book is filled with uplifting encouragement and is not at all preachy, condescending or haughty. Burton writes with a tone like she's your old favorite teacher giving you pearls of wisdom. I got through this book in two days, reading it on my breaks and lunch period at work, and it was an enjoyable read that left me feeling inspired.
