Product Description

Many Christians want to witness for their faith, but they are afraid they will not be able to answer questions that others may ask of them. First Peter 3:15 reminds believers to always be prepared to "make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you." Norman Geisler and Chad Meister realize the fear of facing questions about the Christian faith. Their book Reasons for Faith gives believers grounded biblical apologetics to help them defend their faith.

By covering the importance of apologetics and then applying apologetics to popular culture and theological issues, these authors give all Christians the tools they need to stand firm in their faith and to be able to share that faith in today's society.

"Reasons for Faith, edited by Norm Geisler and Chad Meister, is a handbook for defending the biblical worldview that every pastor should have on his desk and every thoughtful layperson could study with benefit. This is a timely and timeless book."
Charles W. Colson, founder, Prison Fellowship

"Provides just the formidable, relevant, wide-ranging, and winsome defense of the faith necessary to equip any believer to participate effectively in today's marketplace of ideas."
Hank Hanegraaff, President, Christian Research Institute, and host of The Bible Answer Man radio broadcast

Norman L. Geisler is author or coauthor of some sixty books, including The Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics and his four-volume Systematic Theology. He has taught at the university and graduate level for nearly forty years and has spoken or debated in all fifty states and in twenty-five countries. He holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Loyola University and now serves as president of Southern Evangelical Seminary.

Chad V. Meister is director of philosophy at Bethel College in Indiana. He formerly headed up the Defenders Ministry at Willow Creek Community Church.

First Peter 3:5 says, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” The commission is for all Christians, yet the task seems daunting, and few Believers feel adequate for the assignment.

Reasons for Faith is a collection of writings from some of today’s top apologists. It provides a rich resource for responding to why we believe what we believe. With insightful information from such writers as Josh McDowell, Norman Geisler, Sean Choi, and Richard Howe, to name just a few, readers can glean from several lifetimes of learning on such subjects as postmodernism, separation of church and state, The Da Vinci Code, modern cults, and the argument for intelligent design.

Mark Mittelberg, who authors chapter one, says, “Apologetics, the study of reasons for our faith, is not for the mere accumulation of knowledge. It’s to give us the information we need to lovingly serve and help people for whom Jesus died and whom He sent us to reach.”

Apologetics is a witnessing vehicle—not a hammering tool. The more we know, and the more convinced we are in our own minds regarding what we believe, the better able we will be to truthfully and earnestly convey our beliefs to those who are searching for the hope we have found. We can never argue someone into salvation—that’s not the goal. The goal is to offer reasonable responses to the questions posed by today’s seekers and agnostics.

I recommend this book to all teen and adult believers, and I challenge Christians of all ages to read and absorb what the writers of Reasons for Faith have to say. The book provides vital information and valuable insights regarding the Christian faith and ways Christians can respond to those who question the validity of God and His Word. Nancy K.
