The Reason for God Study Pack, DVD & Participant Guide
Decent product, a bit more heady than I was hoping
Decent product, a bit more heady than I was hoping in terms of the conversation partners.

The Reason for God doesn't give reasons for God.
This was purchased for the small group my husband and I host in our home.
We watched it to review before our next study night and neither of us care for it at all, it does not meet our expectations of what is stated in the product description. It seems to give more arguments NOT to believe in Christianity. Tim Keller "wrapping it up" at the end of the 20 minutes does not address everything said by the non-believers, and does not answer their objections which we thought it would do, since the title is "The Reason for God".
The discussion guide and format of the discussion group in the DVD is geared more towards training a believer to be more effective when sharing their faith with a non-believer, but a non-believer watching this video will be pushed even further away from accepting Christ.
I do not recommend this study for any new believers or non-believers on the fence

Make you think
If there is one thing we need more of in the church, that is believers who can think and have a grown up intellegent conversation about our faith with people who are opposed to Christianity. To be able to do this requires more than acceptance based on what someone else has said, but based on a foundation found in Scripture. The Reason for God DVD and leader guide provided for us a resource to begin the conversations and investigate out beliefs without having to have a background in apologetics. The DVD is done with excellence and the discussion guide is well written with Discussion questions and answer guides included. I highly recommend this series if you are looking for something to ground your adults and teens in the faith by helping them think on their own and search the Scriptures for themselves.

Real questions from real people
I was really interested in this study because of the fact that Timothy Keller is speaking exclusively with non-believers about important issues that, sadly, many Christians aren't even concerned about or even aware of. I thought this would be a great resource to show other Christians:
(A): Non-believers do have important questions.
(B): What those specific concerns are.
(C): There are great answers to all of them!
The basic formulation with the study is that the video sessions (which are very high quality in production value and content management) don't give you the answers to questions, it just opens the door for the group to address those questions that the non-believers on the videos are asking. Timothy Keller will basically describe the topic, and then the majority of the videos are the non-believers discussing the issues between themselves. Once in a while Timothy will answer a question with basics, and is a good starting point for further discussion.
The book that comes with the video is packed full of great additional questions and great answers. Personally, I won't be using the booklet too much because of the format of the group I am leading, but if one were to simply follow the book's questions and answers it would be a great contribution to the knowledge and understanding for those involved in the group study. The answers given in the book are very thorough and well thought out. What I really enjoy about this study is that it's very flexible and open. The video gives you real questions and discussions, and what you do about those questions is up to you!
