DEBUT RESOUNDS WITH POTENTIAL

In 2001, RE:ZOUND was awarded the prestigious title of MTV’s No. 1 undiscovered band. Since then, the Arizona-based band has been garnering a fan base among both U.S. and international locales due to its unprecedented schedule of touring, writing and recording. During that same time, they also managed to obtain three R&R Top 20 singles. Now, with their first Vertical Shift Records release (distributed through EMI CMG), they are ready to take the next step toward becoming a household name. If Abandoned To You is any indication, then it will not be a difficult goal for the band to accomplish.

This is a well-crafted album, both musically and lyrically. Although reminiscent of such bands like Collective Soul and Creed, RE:ZOUND proves they also have a distinct sound. The songs range anywhere from guitar-driven rock anthems to modern worship hits.

As the title of the record indicates, complete abandonment to God is the underlying theme. Along with some excellent instrumentation, the band offers some of the most poignant and thought-provoking worship songs recorded within the last few years. With songs like “Beautiful” and “35 Weeks,” this is a band that is destined to make an impact on listeners everywhere.

The Abandoned To You CD is just awesome! It is wonderful music that praises the Lord in music that has a great beat.

I give it all five stars because this is one of those bands you have to see live they change peoples lives in such a powerful way. The music is something that I really hope catches on. We need a band like this in the industry.

“The reason that I picked Re:Zound to be featured on the show was simple. My show features the very best artists that I can find from all genres of music so a band's sound and image is number one and two on who I choose. Once that is established then I go for a good story that the artist may have so when I found out that Re:Zound was the first Christian band to play at a public venue in Vietnam I new the combination was a perfect fit.”

Re:Zound returns to the scene with their third release, Abandoned to You. Back in 2001, MTV named them the "number one undiscovered band," and it's fairly easy to see why they earned that title. Re:Zound delivers a rather unique sound that has a little bit of something for everyone. Their uniqueness makes them hard to classify, but can probably best be described as a soft rock/worship band with a bit of a U2 vibe with a hint of country thrown in. The message on Abandoned to You is not hard to classify, however. The theme of the lyrics are quite clear, emphasizing that life is all about redemption in Christ. The band's sound delivering this message is "beautiful," as one of the tracks says. Very rarely these days do you find such a Christ-centered focus (and not counting worship albums here) on literally every single song. The title track talks about letting God have control of everything in our lives. The song "Beautiful" is about how God is more than anything that we can even hope for and it's impossible to find the words to express all that He is. Another great track is "Day That Never Ends," where lead singer Jason Anderson sings about not knowing how fast life is going by until those precious days are in the past and wishing to get those days back. Anderson sings "Lord, can't I go back for a day?" There's also a track that leads the listener to Christ in prayer, which is another unique addition. While I do think that it's hard to enter the CCM music industry and gain major acceptance these days, Re:Zound's fresh style will likely get them noticed when they do come on the radio. What remains to be seen is whether or not this unique sound will be embraced by those who enjoy bands like Mercy Me or Casting Crowns. Whether or not they gain wide acceptance, Abandoned To You is an enjoyable effort because they're using their talent to bring something new to the industry while testing the limits of worshipful music.
