This is by far the best book I have read regarding family life and the raising of children. I would recommend it to anyone who desires to love their children the way they themselves are loved, and given grace by God our Father. In classic Murray way, he takes you through the scriptures to remind us of the seriousness of the ministry of raising kids for Christ, and the hope that we have in the Holy Spirit being a complete guide and supplier of wisdom and self-control. It is more a treatise on how we as parents need to be trained than it is do's and don't of everyday life with children. The Spirit of this book continually prompts me to not walk in the counsel of ungodly, but to count on the Holy Spirit to guide, counsel and give grace. If you have kids, if you have grandkids, and if you know kids, or anyone who has kids, it would benifit you to prayerfully read this book. It is chaulk full of the word of God.

This author has amazing insight to those seeking a closer relationship with God. His advice is sound and helpful in raising kids for His glory. I plan to purchase more copies and give to other parents.

I've read a number of parenting books, and there are many good ones, but in my opinion, this is probably the best I've read. It's as helpful to a seasoned parent (myself) as it would be to a new parent. Murray gets right to the root of what we need to know--taken from God's Word itself, which makes the message compelling! It would be a great book for a husband and wife to read a chapter each day, as a devotional together. There are even prayers at the end of the chapters which sum up the thoughts from the chapters. This book does more than lay the foundation of why you need to parent for the Lord, it encourages godly habits, self-control, and other traits that are crucial for seeing your children turn out! He also emphasizes the need to truly be trusting the LORD for the miracle of grace in your children's hearts!! Essential!

I read this book 24 years ago when my first daughter was born. Seven children later--all of whom live for Christ---I can recommend this book with confidence! It is one of the most dog-eared books in the house. Inspiring, motivating, convicting, helpful and easy to read. Highly recommended!
