Raise Your Boys to be Men of Faith and Courage
Parenting can be a wild frontierbut one you can tame if you have courage, love, and the right perspective.
Raising a Modern Frontier Boy is a comprehensive, firsthand, tour-guide look into the frontier of fatherhood. Written from a father and a sons perspective, you see both sides of parentingwhat works, what didnt work, and what built an enduring friendship and collegiality that extends far beyond the parenting years.
Raising a Modern Frontier Boy recounts the fascinating journey of writer and director John Grooters through the parenting years with his son, Jedidiah. Their story culminates when 19-year-old Jed accepts a starring role in the feature film The Frontier Boys, and embodies the faith and values that he, by then, had chosen to embrace and live on his own.
Intelligent, instructive, and intriguing, Raising a Modern Frontier Boy will set you on an amazing path toward an enduring relationship of mutual respect and love.
John Grooters is an award-winning writer, producer, director, and musician. He has won more than 35 national awards for video production excellence and has traveled the world producing stories on everything from King Davids tomb to the 100th running of the Chicago-to-Mackinac sailboat race. As a creative writer and director, John is in demand. When Focus on the Family wanted a new look for their extremely popular Bible study series That the World May Know, they called John. When the largest Christian museum in the world needed excellent storytelling coupled with exceptional production for their exhibits, they called John. When the city of New Tieling in China began creating their Harmony World Cultural Park attractions and needed someone with exceptional creative vision and drive, they called John.

ListenCloseRochester, NY4 Stars Out Of 5Inspiration for dadsNovember 27, 2012ListenCloseRochester, NYQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4John Grooters, with his son, Jedidiah (Jed) Grooters, appeal to the dad in every father in Raising a Modern Frontier Boy. John starts out with his son's defining decision to buck the high school's protocol by insisting on reading a religious speech for his valedictorian address. John considered it a wake-up call for himself about needing to keep in touch with his son's growth in faith.
Here's an interesting point about the book. John admits to his oversight. He goes on to reveal a number of areas he thinks he could have done better in communicating with Jed. What startled me is that his admission comes against the backdrop of hard-charging entrepreneurship and super-daddom.
Another wrinkle that made the book work for me is Jed's talking about his own experiences as John's son. Jed lets us know of his very different take on their developing relationship. You rarely get such a forthright back-and-forth.
John's deep care about Jed led him to make changes to connect better with his son. Yet overarching their relationship is God's grace working behind the scenes. Both father and son grow into a new understanding of God's care over their lives.
Great inspirational reading for dads who desire to improve their own communication with their sons. The publisher gave me a free copy of the book for an impartial review.
RosieAzAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5excellent book on relationshipNovember 7, 2012RosieAzAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The book Raising a Modern Frontier Boy was an incredible book at the relationship of a father and son progressed. I was moved by the strength and awareness of Jed's strong believe in Jesus Christ, which let him to stand up for Christ. He stood up to the school system and did not wave on his stand for Christ which on the long run witness to the whole school and community. As the book continued we see how what we would consider insignificant action by his father John molded the young man he would become. I would highly recommend this book for all to read, not only fathers and mothers as well.
I was fortunate to receive this book from Destiny Image in exchange for an honest review.
MalgorzataPolandAge: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A 'mission possible' task.October 31, 2012MalgorzataPolandAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3Raising a boy who is responsible, mature, bold and faithul to his beliefs is an extremely difficult task in today's world. Yet in his book "Raising a modern frontier boy", John Grooters shows on his own example that it is not a ‘mission impossible' task. Against all odds and difficulties, pressures from the outside and temptations from the inside, it is still possible to become a frontier father who successfully brings up a frontier son.
Who will benefit most from the book?
First of all, those men who need encouragement in their personal process of becoming frontier fathers. John Grooters and his son Jedidiah told their stories in such an honest, transparent and inspiring way that it truly can lift up some emotional burden from someone's back.
Secondly, those who are interested in the behind-the scene-details of making and directing of the film "The Frontier Boys".
A big plus for the book for its composition: the father telling his side of the story, the son revealing his side; practicing principles that end each chapter evoke the need for a personal self-examination and answers.
I received this ebook from the publisher through Destiny Image Book Review program.
