Do you want your daughter to cherish her purity and honor God by the chaste and lovely way she presents herself? Through stories, conversational teachings, illustrations, and memory-making projects, Raising Maidens of Virtue covers topics such as guarding the tongue, idleness, sibling relationships, honoring parents, contentment, modesty, purity, cleanliness, and feminine beauty.
“Just what is a maiden?” this book asks. “When we hear the word, do we picture a medieval princess strumming a lute in some fantastical castle?” I believe every girl born today has the potential to grow up into a lovely young modern-day maiden serving God and her family with a sweet smile and modest spirit. Sadly, this goal is not what is promoted in today’s culture. Sadder still is that some of the most challenging peer pressure a young maiden faces may be found in her own church.
I remember how it felt to be ignored by other girls because I wasn’t “cool” like they were. I would have found Raising Maidens of Virtue an affirmation of what my parents were already teaching me out of my mom’s edition of Beautiful Girlhood.
Many who have read Beautiful Girlhood will want to add Raising Maidens of Virtue to their library. In this book the challenging ideals of biblical femininity are expanded. Topics cover guarding the tongue, idleness, honoring parents, modesty, purity, and more. The chapters are adorned with colorful full-page illustrations done by a homeschooled maiden. 226 pages, hardcover from Vision Forum.

Dad’s note: For the protection of our girls, we ought to consider the specifics that are addressed in this book. These specifics might seem extreme but bear in mind the forces at work in the world attempting to undermine the purity of Christian girls. Apply what principles you can, and your family will be a light to those who have been influenced by today’s lax standards.

I got this book for my daughter and I to go over together through out the new year. I have been looking it over to prepare myself and have enjoyed the sketches, and for myself- I have been reflecting on, challenged by, and expounding on some of the topics for myself before I get to them with my daughter. It has been a great encouragement for me and I hope it will be for my daughter as well.

I bought this book to get a head start with my own daughters (2 and almost 1 year old). I did find most of the topics helpful, even surprisingly pertinent to me! However, the book really is geared to be read with your daughter of 8+ yrs, and I imagine it would be a completely different experience done as they suggested, instead of just read by mom. I am keeping it to read with my daughters later. Other things I liked about it: lots of ideas on how to get into the topics with activities; pertinent examples of values; and biblical basis for all virtues. However, one thing I did notice is that the author's "flavor" or opinion does come across (to an adult) as a bit sanctimonious at times. Kids might not even notice.
All in all, I recommended this book to all my girlfriends so that should tell you my overall impression. =)

Some might say a lot of this material is "archaic" or "old-fashioned" but it is an excellent "calling back" to Biblical feminine loveliness that will be great for a group of mothers & daughters to delve into together.
It is refreshing to see it with all the sleeze & anti-family sentiment out there today--wholesome, practical, family-oriented, & very Biblical
