For more than 15 years, Manning's bestseller
The Ragamuffin Gospel has reminded us that Jesus did not come for the pretty, pious and powerful. Instead, he came for the "bedraggled, beat-up and burnt-out" ragamuffins who desperately need his grace. Dispelling the myth that you must work to receive God's gift of grace and joy, Manning, a fellow ragamuffin, reveals the true nature of a freely-given and unrelenting grace that's available to all. Drop the burden of never measuring up and revel in the comfort of a God who loves you for who you are - not for who you think you should be.
This 2005 release includes a new epilogue, "The Scandal of Grace: Fifteen Years Later," and a new section "19 Mercies: A Spiritual Journey" of reading, prayer, and contemplation.
A Furious Love Is Hot on Your Trail! Many believers feel stunted in their Christian growth. We beat ourselves up over our failures and, in the process, pull away from God because we subconsciously believe He tallies our defects and hangs His head in disappointment. In this newly repackaged edition - now with full appendix, study questions, and the author's own epilogue, " Ragamuffin Ten Years Later," Brennan Manning reminds us that nothing could be further from the truth. The Father beckons us to Himself with a "furious love" that burns brightly and constantly. Only when we truly embrace God's grace can we bask in the joy of a gospel that enfolds the most needy of His flock - the "ragamuffins."

Next to the Bible this is the best book I have ever read. God gave Brennan Manning a gift for letting us know more about the vastness of God's love and His grace. Reading the Ragamuffin Gospel is time well spent.

My pastor recommended this book, and I am glad he did. The enemy whispers in our ears daily and reminds us of "how short we all come". This book portrays the love of God and His mercies. We desperately need His grace.

I bought this book feeling like a "Ragumuffin" Christian. I was looking for a "woe is me, I'm not "feeling" like a Christian today" kind of read. Early on in the book, however, I was feeling like I could be one of the pious, judgmental folks in which Manning points out so poignantly that this book was not intended. But as I read on, I realized there is a "ragumuffin" in all of us. Manning has a way of making you feel that God's grace certainly is for the unlovable, the untouchable, and for the woman at every well searching for Her savior, though she doesn't know He is right beside her. Looking for grace that was given to her so freely though could not believe that it could be for a woman of her status (or lack there of). Manning is endorsing the cool drink of water to every thirsty soul. "Come all you tired and weary and I will give you rest..." Fall in the arms of Christ and may you feel his undeniable and unfathomable love for you after this read. Some points of Manning's are shocking in the way he candidly writes. Some could even find it offensive or sac-religious in the way he holds nothing back. But I do recommend the book! It is quite a switch from a Joel Olsteen read. ;)

Brennan Manning has a way of ever so gently, kindly and humbly whipping the cloth out from under your carefully placed spiritual "table settings" and leaving you sitting-still on the same foundation, Jesus Christ-in a simpler and more genuine position.

Highly recommended for mature Christians that can keep the right perspective concerning sin. It's on my top four favorite books.

This message of grace is a must read for all. For those who believe, it can do nothing but deepen an already existing understanding of God's loving grace. For those who havn't taken the step of faith through grace, this may be the book God uses to show them His tender mercy through grace.

this book gets at the way Jesus would have us look at those around us. It also changed the way that I looked at my own life. There is freedom knowing that God loves me even when I am not perfect.
