Publisher's Description

From the award-winning audio drama team that brought you Radio Theatre’s Amazing Grace and The Chronicles of Narnia. In his enduringly popular masterpiece The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis re-imagines Hell as a gruesome bureaucracy. With spiritual insight and wry wit, Lewis suggests that demons, laboring in a vast enterprise, have horribly recognizable human attributes: competition, greed, and totalitarian punishment. Avoiding their own painful torture as well as a desire to dominate are what drive demons to torment their “patients.”
The style and unique dark humor of The Screwtape Letters are retained in this full-cast dramatization, as is the original setting of London during World War II. The story is carried by the senior demon Screwtape played magnificently by award-winning actor Andy Serkis (“Gollum” in Lord of the Rings) as he shares correspondence to his apprentice demon Wormwood. All 31 letters lead into dramatic scenes, set in either Hell or the real world with humans—aka “the patient,” as the demons say—along with his circle of friends and family. This Radio Theatre release also stars Geoffrey Palmer (Tomorrow Never Dies), Laura Michelle Kelly (Sweeney Todd), Eileen Page (The Secret Garden), and other world-class actors.
Includes 10 new songs inspired by the classic book, four behind-the-scenes video documentary featurettes, and a 5.1 surround sound mix. Four CDs, approx. 4 hours total.

I have read the book before and somehow lost it. So I purchased the CD's. Wow! Made the book become more alive and you become more aware. This book is a good reminder how the devil works in our lives and should help to make us more determined to feed on the Word of God to NOT be deceived! GREAT!!!

I have always found Focus to produce very high quality radio theater, and this is no exception. I notices some minor changes in the wording of the book to fit their format -- I've read Screwtape Letters so many times over the years that I can actually recite parts -- and I suppose it's the format is what I find most distracting. Though Screwtape sounds like a proper devil, Wormwood does not, and I found his contributions to the conversations very tepid. Even after I became accustomed to the format and the bits that were added to make it more of a drama, I didn't like it much. I much prefer my audiobook CD reading, I'm afraid.

I WILL say, however, that Andy Serkis was FABULOUS as Screwtape, I believed him wholeheartedly, and I loved how focus added the sound effects to his voice. That was quality work rarely surpassed ANYWHERE. Kudos to you all for the sound and fury of Screwtape!!

Overall I believe its a great eye opener as every single one of us who listen to this will realize that we have fallen to some of the very same traps that are mentioned on this dramatized piece of artwork. But in order to really dive into it, you must give all ears to it and listen to it with the same mindset as when you are playing chess. Its very strategic in its explainations. It wasnt for just mere "fun and adventure", but for teaching and making you aware of whats going on. But this is useless if your heart is far from God. Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Make Him the total focus of your life. Place your own life in proportion to His will. Learn to hate what God hates, and love what He loves.

Having read C.S.Lewis's "The Screwtape Letters" years ago, as well as having seen it performed magnificently off- Broadway, I was delighted with Focus on the Family's radio production CD set! It made a wonderful gift for my teenaged grandson!
