Product Description

This basic primer on the interface between gospel and culture highlights the contrast between presentation evangelism and participation evangelism. It helps Christians navigate between the twin pitfalls of syncretism (being so culturally relevant that you lose your message) and sectarianism (being so culturally irrelevant that you lose your mission). Included are interviews with those who have crossed cultural barriers, such as a television producer, exotic dancer, tattoo studio owner and band manager. The appendix represents eight portals into the future: population, family, health/medicene, creating, learning, sexuality and religion.

Publisher's Description

Reformation is the continual reforming of the mission of the church to enhance God’s command to reach out to others in a way that acknowledges the unique times and locations of daily life. This engaging book blends the integrity of respected theoreticians with the witty and practical insights of a pastor. It calls for a movement of missionaries to seek the lost across the street as well as across the globe. This basic primer on the interface between gospel and culture highlights the contrast between presentation evangelism and participation evangelism. It helps Christians navigate between the twin pitfalls of syncretism (being so culturally irrelevant that you lose your message) and sectarianism (being so culturally irrelevant that you lose your mission). Included are interviews with those who have crossed cultural barriers, such as a television producer, exotic dancer, tattoo studio owner, and band manager. The appendix represents eight portals into the future: population, family, health/medicine, creating, learning, sexuality, and religion. Mark Driscoll was recently featured on the ABC special The Changing of Worship.

This book was fantastic. I love how Mark Discoll disputed the "garbage in, garbage out" way of thinking. Honestly, as a christian who has wrongfully thrown out all of her "secular" music countless times, I wish he had done a whole chapter on it. The whole book was great though.

This book is funny and convicting. I have enjoyed Driscoll's writing style, and like the profiles of Christians who don't fit the "Christian" stereotype -- such as a Christian tattoo artist, or pub owner. It's an interesting read.

Great book!! His views on Noah wanted me to re read the Genesis. And even though his views where way out there, he was right.

Excellent, intriguing and thought-provoking. And true to Scripture. The sub-title, "Reaching out without selling out", says it all. Highly recommended for all, especially pastors.

This is a FANTASTIC book. Realize that the culture is changing around you? Church growth methods outdated? Last seminar you went to more of the same ole same ole? Then Driscoll's book will remind you of the gospel and get you thinking about being a reformissionary... Excellent!
