My daughter recieved this as a gift for her birthday. I choose to pre-read her books before allowing her to read them on her own. I was extremely disappointed with this book. For a christian book the modeling for young girls was poor. Rachel exhibits plenty of negative emotions without any repentance, just guilt. And often her guilt is brought on by concern about getting caught. She is described as praying but only in selfish ways and never with repentance for the spiteful or naughty things she has done. She sneaks around. She takes her father's can but claims "he has so many he wouldn't miss it." She and her brother are unkind to each other. And the antagonist of the story is a boy who picks on her through the whole story. She is angry, resentful, and spiteful toward him. There seems to be only remorse when something bad happens to her. No true heart of repentance or Christlike attitudes modeled her. There are a few scriptures smattered here or there. But in my opinion this books leaves much to be desired in good modeling for young Christian girls in the target age.

My 7 year old daughter and I have to read at least 2 chapters a night. She loves the book. We started with this one first. We are on #1 now and I have ordered the reamining in the series. It is great to have book to read to her that have Rachel being a regular 9 year old but yet praying and trusting in God.

I love the Wanda Brunstetter amish books. My 10-year-old daughter has been wanting some books of her own. She got this book and loves it. It is very entertaining and informative. It is even entertaining for parents who read with their children. LOVE IT!
