Zoya misses the dad she never knew. All she wants is to follow in his footsteps as a champion sprint dog racer. But when she witnesses a murder in their town of North Pole, Alaska, she finds herself thrown into dangers and emotions she can’t begin to understand.
Enter Sean Connelly, a new employee at the kennel with demons of his own. When he discovers macrochips bearing military secrets implanted in the Naltsiine's dogs, a puzzle tracing back to the murder unfolds. Then strange "accidents" start happening; clearly someone wants Zoya silenced. Anesia tells her daughter it's not safe to race, but Zoya, angry with the world- and God-takes off across dangerous Alaskan terrain alone. Anesia and Sean must race against time to save the girl-and themselves.

Woodhouse weaves the tale of lonely, Anesia Naltsiine and her thirteen-year-old daughter, Zoya. The duo are champion sprint dog racers in North Pole, Alaska. Anesia has worked hard and long to become a reputable dog breeder, drawing buyers from all around the world.
Zoya longs for the dad she's never met. She's driven to succeed, to be like him. Zoya finds herself thrown into intrigue and suspense when she witnesses a murder while exercising her dog sled team. Her life is plunged into continual threats of danger and she struggles with conflicting emotions in all areas of her life, particularly with her relationship with the Lord.
Anesia is forced to face the fact that she can't fully protect her daughter, and deals with learning to step out in faith and trust God with her daughter's life. Both battle feelings of jealousy toward the relationship of their dear friends, Cole, Jenna, and Andie Maddox.
Sean Connelly desires a fresh start and takes a job at Anesia's kennels after walking to Alaska from Boston. He's hired as a worker, but also to help protect Zoya. The story escalates when Sean finds macro-chips with military secrets embedded under the skin of Anesia's dogs. With the discovery, threats on Zoya's life escalate. He needs to overcome the issues from his past in order to have a future with this mother and daughter.
I found Race Against Time to be a wonderful read which I highly recommend.

MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Alaskan thriller with dog racing and suspenseJanuary 5, 2012MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Race Against Time, the second book in the Midnight Sun series, continues the story of the adventurous Alaskans we met in No Safe Haven. This novel focuses on Athabaskans Zoya and Anesia Naltsiine and their dogs, who love to run in sprint sled races. Thirteen-year-old Zoya's life is threatened, and she struggles with issues of faith and trust. Will Sean Connolly, the new employee at the kennel, help or hurt the touchy situation? And what did he run from in leaving his wealthy family and position back East? And why are the FBI and the military interested in what's going on at the Naltsiines?
Young adults and older readers alike will enjoy this thrilling story. The Arctic setting and the numerous secrets contribute to the excitement. This suspenseful book can stand alone, but it's better to read the series in order.
Jill WilliamsonOregonAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Another excellent suspense novelDecember 3, 2011Jill WilliamsonOregonAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Zoya witnesses a murder while out with her sled dog team. She tries to flee but gets shot in the process. She is left feeling angry at God for allowing so many bad things to happen to her and her friends. Her mother, Anesia, is at her wits' end, trying to take care of her daughter and keep her kennel running snoothly. She hires a new man named Sean to help out with the dogs but doesn't have time to deal with the feelings he stirs up within her. The bad guys come after Zoya again, and Sean vows to protect them. But Sean is hiding something too, and Anesia doesn't know who to trust.
Another excellent suspense novel from the mother-daughter writing team Kimberly and Kayla Woodhouse. We got to spend some time with Jenna, Andie, and Cole, too, which was nice, because I missed them. This story has a mystery of its own that is connected to events in book one, but goes further. I couldn't put it down. Very well done.
SusanAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Great Book!November 10, 2011SusanAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4This book is full of mystery and fast paced. If you pick it up, be prepared to approach your characters in a different way. Each section is introduced with bold-face type telling you whose POV you're in for that scene. Another unique writing trait is the switch from 3rd to 1st person. Zoya, the daughter, is written in 1st person while the remaining characters are in 3rd person. While that took me some time to settle into, the change was unique and refreshing.
The plot is intense and deals with death, struggling faith, and new love, all with a thread of suspense woven throughout. If you can slip past the structure of the book, you'll find yourself thoroughly enjoying the Alaskan landscape and this well-written story.
