Anesia Naltsiine has made mistakes that have cost her-and her 13-year old daughter, Zoya-dearly. But no more. She will prove her worth as a mother and as a breeder of champion sprint racing dogs. Her kennel is so successful that buyers come from all over the world. So why does she still feel so worthless?

Zoya misses the dad she never knew. All she wants is to follow in his footsteps as a champion sprint dog racer. But when she witnesses a murder in their town of North Pole, Alaska, she finds herself thrown into dangers and emotions she can’t begin to understand.

Enter Sean Connelly, a new employee at the kennel with demons of his own. When he discovers macrochips bearing military secrets implanted in the Naltsiine's dogs, a puzzle tracing back to the murder unfolds. Then strange "accidents" start happening; clearly someone wants Zoya silenced. Anesia tells her daughter it's not safe to race, but Zoya, angry with the world- and God-takes off across dangerous Alaskan terrain alone. Anesia and Sean must race against time to save the girl-and themselves.

    exciting read

I enjoyed not only the story but learning more about living in Alaska and sled dogs. I liked the way the author switched the perspective telling the story through different characters. The author creatively had characters work through struggles that many deal with: trusting God, relationships, the past, PTSD, and faith. The battle in the spiritual realm with Zoya was shown with an inner voice she listens to. There was suspense trying to figure out who the bad guys were.

Readers are introduced to a plot that has suspense, tension, intrigue, murder, faith and romance. The story starts in book one, No Safe Haven, by the same mother and daughter authors who team up to write these fictional novels set in Alaska. In the first book, the audience learns that military men have worked to undermine a special project. Now that the program is in safe hands when the program is run for a test; the problem begins to glare brightly with the military. Cole must find whatever clue his friend left before his death in order for the program to work correctly, but it becomes a race to locate the clue.

Zoya loves sprint racing. Her dogs are well cared for and when she sets out one day to prep them for an upcoming race, she witnesses a murder and is shot. Her mother, Anesia, is called to the hospital. After that, the mother and daughter are seemingly the target of the killers scope constantly. Needing full-time help with her award-winning kennels Anesia hires Sean who has left Boston behind to get a fresh start. The constant pressure of being hunted by unknown assailants brings out the deep battle residing in Zoyas heart and causes Anesia to realize that without opening her heart to love the burden will surely tear her apart.

As I read through both novels I fell in love with the story that shows how sometimes unknown issues of our hearts come to the surface when lifes pressures are at their highest. Both mother and daughter are learning how to let go of control and anger in order for them to hear His voice. Sean is a man who made a choice to leave his fathers company because the actions of his Dad were illegal. Sean must learn to forgive his Dad and talk to him respectfully with the hopes his Dad will be open to the Lord.

I love how the military program is what the evil character is desperately trying to get their hands on. As it causes Cole, who is in the military, to rethink how even America could use the program for wrong reasons as all mankind struggles with a sinful nature. The authors show how each character must decide whether to draw near to the Lord or to walk this life without Him. The mother and daughter team have written more than just No Safe Haven & Race Against Time, but these two books are connected and can be enjoyed by adults and teens alike! These are two wonderful books to give as presents to readers in your household!

Race Against Time by Kimberley and Kayla R. Woodhouse weaves the tale of lonely, Anesia Naltsiine and her thirteen-year-old daughter, Zoya. The duo are champion sprint dog racers in North Pole, Alaska. Anesia has worked hard and long to become a reputable dog breeder, drawing buyers from all around the world.

Zoya longs for the dad she's never met. She's driven to succeed, to be like him. Zoya finds herself thrown into intrigue and suspense when she witnesses a murder while exercising her dog sled team. Her life is plunged into continual threats of danger and she struggles with conflicting emotions in all areas of her life, particularly with her relationship with the Lord.

Anesia is forced to face the fact that she can't fully protect her daughter, and deals with learning to step out in faith and trust God with her daughter's life. Both battle feelings of jealousy toward the relationship of their dear friends, Cole, Jenna, and Andie Maddox.

Sean Connelly desires a fresh start and takes a job at Anesia's kennels after walking to Alaska from Boston. He's hired as a worker, but also to help protect Zoya. The story escalates when Sean finds macro-chips with military secrets embedded under the skin of Anesia's dogs. With the discovery, threats on Zoya's life escalate. He needs to overcome the issues from his past in order to have a future with this mother and daughter.

I found Race Against Time to be a wonderful read which I highly recommend.

Race Against Time, the second book in the Midnight Sun series, continues the story of the adventurous Alaskans we met in No Safe Haven. This novel focuses on Athabaskans Zoya and Anesia Naltsiine and their dogs, who love to run in sprint sled races. Thirteen-year-old Zoya's life is threatened, and she struggles with issues of faith and trust. Will Sean Connolly, the new employee at the kennel, help or hurt the touchy situation? And what did he run from in leaving his wealthy family and position back East? And why are the FBI and the military interested in what's going on at the Naltsiines?

Young adults and older readers alike will enjoy this thrilling story. The Arctic setting and the numerous secrets contribute to the excitement. This suspenseful book can stand alone, but it's better to read the series in order.
