In fact there are fifteen chapters. Each chapter focuses on a question, with an in depth answer. The author answers questions on topics such as how and why to read the Bible, who is Jesus, and how to resist evil. These are questions that I myself have often wondered about and felt like I was given fuel for thought with the answers I received in this book.
Overall, I found this book was written in a down to earth easy writing style that was easy to understand, that will give the reader fuel for thought. I think this book would be perfect for not only a new christian, but anyone looking for answers to some very basic but also very important questions concerning faith and Christianity.

He really didn't know much about the Christian faith at all. But then he read the New Testament for himself and became a Christian.
He pioneered the Alpha course and Questions of Life is the basis for the Alpha Course in book form. It is an introduction to Christianity that was first printed sixteen years ago. Since then, over fourteen million people have taken the course.
In this book Gumbel answers some of the key questions at the heart of Christian faith.
He looks at the historical evidence for Jesus, explores why Jesus had to die, what it means to become a Christian with faith, the how and why of prayer (including a good meditation on the Lord's Prayer), why and how to read the Bible, how God guides us, how to be filled with the Spirit (including speaking in tongues), the devil and spiritual warfare, telling others about your faith, God healing today and how to pray for it, why and how to be part of a church, and making the best of the rest of your life.
This is a very readable introduction to Christianity with answers to many questions inquirers have. Gumbel tells lots of stories about himself and others to illustrate his answers.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from a publicity group for the purpose of this review.

Attendees are encouraged to ask any question without feeling embarrassed or threatened and receive answers that will enlighten and bring the Christian faith into focus.
Pioneered by Nicky Gumbel, the Alpha Course is designed to meet weekly for 10 weeks which includes a meal and a discussion time followed by a one-day or weekend retreat to further expand their fellowship and relationship with God.
In "Questions of Life", Gumbel addresses some big issues of the Christian faith that are challenging to everyone. Included is a discussion of who Jesus is, why and how to pray, why we read the Bible and information about the Holy Spirit and why all of these are important to our faith.
This book is sure to help non-Christians understand our faith and offers an opportunity to discuss why we believe the way we do in a non-threatening way. If you are interested in finding out more about The Alpha Course, visit the website at www.alphausa.org.

Heather KingGloucester, VAAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5For skeptics, for new believers, for those seekingDecember 26, 2012Heather KingGloucester, VAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have three young daughters and I spend a great deal of my everyday life answering questions, lots and lots of questions. Not many of them, though, are nearly as important and foundational as the questions Nicky Gumbel tackles in his book: Questions of Life." He walks through the essentials of faith and doubt beginning with, "Is there more to life than this?" and "Who is Jesus?" and progresses from there to matters of church life, prayer, and study of Scripture.
Gumbel's approach is likeable, easily read and engaging. Still, he comes across as an intellectual, who is well-versed in the skeptic's life and thought. He is able, based on his own testimony, to understand what it's like to question faith and ultimately to embrace it and the book seems particularly intended to engage skeptics and agnostics.
For new Christians, this book would provide an excellent foundational course in why we believe what we believe and what our faith looks like when applied to our daily lives. Even long-term Christians don't always know these "basics" of Christian faith and teaching, so it could provide the basic teaching they may be lacking.
This is no watered-down treatise for the modern church either. He talks openly about sin, obedience, and choosing to follow Christ even when sacrifice or discomfort are involved. He emphasizes both intellectually growing in our belief and emotionally interacting with God rather than remaining stiff and unmoved by His amazing grace.
