Endorsements

In this day and age we need more books like Quest for the Nail Prints. Mr Furr has written an outstanding book. Not only a blessing but dare I say a road map of faith! This book must be read. — Joseph S Bonsall Oak Ridge Boys and author of From My Perspective

A first class page-turner. Don furr has given us a nail-biting thriller with a fresh and relevant kingdom world view. — Howard A. Klausner, writer-producer of The Grace Card and Space Cowboys

"From the day I was saved, I have longed to have a dream where I walked and talked with Jesus. I would fall to sleep at night thinking about it, praying God would allow such a dream to happen, then thirty years later it did! But it did not happen as I had hoped in a dream. It happened when I read Quest for the Nail Prints, and through the characters of the book I walked and talked with Jesus in the days before His crucifixion. I still long for my "dream," but for now I look forward to Don’s sequel!" — Bill Nielsen, Managing Editor, B&H

Don has written one of the most fascinating books I have read. He is a bright, fresh author who has a unique way of merging today's culture with Biblical truths, and we are excited to feature his book, Quest for the Nail Prints at our national conferences as I am confident it will be a must-read for anyone who loves mystery, suspense, and most of all Jesus Christ. - Dr. Joe Pettigrew, author, In the Zone

"I felt as if I was one of the disciples experiencing first hand the last week of Christ’s ministry on earth. I realized the need for me to get back into the scriptures to learn for myself the fulfillment of God’s promise. I have been in church and Sunday school all my life, but never felt as involved in the New Testament story as I did in this book." - Dennis R. Roaten, Disciples of Christ

"Reading Quest for the Nail Prints was more than just reading a book. To me, it was a personal experience and journey. Through the eyes of the ones traveling back into time and meeting Jesus face to face before His death, it was as if I were the one actually doing it. Don Furr paints a mental picture so real and vivid that I felt I was the one meeting Jesus, getting to know His chosen disciples, watching Him heal the sick and teach to the crowds, and watching Him agonize over what He knew He had to do. Jesus was so real to me in this book. I actually saw His humanness in not wanting to go to the cross, but going out of obedience and genuine love for His children. The characters came to life for me. It was interesting to see the disciples depicted as they were, and their interaction to their Master. This was more than just a book—it was a true experience of something extraordinary." — April J. Stockdale, Promise Land Bookstore

"What a masterful job you did in creating a situation I have dreamed about before myself. Seeing Jesus has always been my first option if I could travel back in time. I’m not sure how I would handle it. I pray that this book will put you right up there with the bestsellers of all time. Your book is the second best book I have ever read, with the Bible being first." — Phil Reasons, Thompson's and Formbys, Ret.

"This is a book that, from the very first time you pick it up, you will know there is something different about it. And by the time you finally put it down you just may never forget the roller coaster ride you had experienced reading it!" — Phil Inman

This fiction book based on a very true and wonderful story will draw you into the experience. It made me think just how true it is that we all supplied the nails for the crucifixion of Christ. Christ paid it all that we can be saved and this book makes that point very clearly. If you love Christian fiction, I recommend you read this enthralling book.

From the moment you pick this book up you know there is something different about it. For starters there is a hole completely through it. One other thing that stands out is that it is Christian fiction but from the sci-fi genre. Yes there are other Christian sci-fi books, but in general they are few and far between.

I am not personally drawn to science fiction but my book clubs were asked to read and comment on this book so I obliged. I am grateful that I complied.

The story begins with three ordinary people from different walks of life. For different reasons they are each traveling to Israel. Through a series of events that are written in a manner that make them feel plausible, they are thrust back in time to the beginning of Holy Week. Make that the original Holy Week where Christ is making his way through the streets of Jerusalem.

The story continues through Holy Week and we get an up close and personal view through the eyes of our three travelers. I was amazed at how drawn in to the story I was. Don did a great job of staying accurate to scripture while adding in these new characters. The further you get into the book the more poignant that nail hole becomes. I've always thought it would be interesting to have been there. What would my reaction have been like? Would I have stayed to the bitter end or would I run and hide in fear? Expect to ponder these questions and more as you read this very intriguing tale.

Quest is the first book in the series and will be followed up by Peter's Quest. I'm looking forward to reading it just so I can find out more about the three travelers and how all of this impacted them when they returned to their families.

First of all, a book with a hole drilled through it from front cover to back does certainly catch one's eye. That they represent the nails driven through the hands of Jesus lets one know that this book will be special.

Three ordinary people, a pastor, a believing doctor, and an agnostic professor, take a wrong turn in Jerusalem on a trip to the Holy Land and end up back in time to the last week of Jesus' life. So many questions arise from this scenario. What would it like to be face to face and physically embraced by Jesus and hear Him call me by name? As the author expresses this thought: "How is it possible I am in the presence of the living, breathing Son of God. . . . . . . .the human embodiment of the God of the universe"? Paul and Elizabeth sit with the disciples as Jesus speaks, and yet realizing that they were in the peculiar position of having more insight into what Jesus was saying and what was happening than the disciples themselves since the time travelers knew what would happen next. They marveled at the blasé boredom on the faces of some in the crowd and the way Jesus' words seemed to fly over the heads of even His closest friends. Then the big issue, if you know that someone you love will be betrayed and murdered, what would you do to stop it? Or should you just stay on the sidelines and watch?

The professor's first century experience is completely different. He ignores the testimony of his own eyes even after he is the recipient of a miracle. He blindly follows his own path of greed and self-interest, resolutely disregarding any sense of morality in his actions. Why was he sent back to this place in time? Will he ever see Jesus for who He is?

So many questions are raised: what does Jesus dream? What if Jesus had chosen the 21st century to have been born—would things have been different?

The story is very readable and engaging with an intriguing premise. Like Leon, Liz and Paul, we are unsure of how they got there and why. The author expresses it this way: "Three lone threads in a tapestry without a clue as to the magnificent pattern God was weaving." Like Liz and Paul, we are privileged to hear Jesus speak to us with all the insight available to us as Post-Resurrection People. How amazing it would be to be in their shoes!

    Formal Book Review

Title: Quest for the Nail Prints

    Author: Don Furr

I had mixed emotions as I began to write this review. I was excited because of how much I enjoyed the book, but concerned because it was going to be very difficult to explain just how good it is. As a Christian Historian I am accustomed to reading about the early years of the church, the era of the Apostles, and the world that surrounded it. However, it is obvious I have missed out by not reading fictional history. I was surprised by the change in environment and it was , to me, a twist worthy of Chubby Checker. I could never have imagined the excitement (and just all out fun) waiting for me when I started reading this book. I'm seldom surprised, but this marvelous, master-crafted work did so - even when I thought I knew what I was about to read. No matter how familiar one is with the Gospel account, reading this imaginative and insightful work can only help the reader see this world changing event more clearly and vividly. If only I would have had a New Testament professor with such imagination and uncanny ability to take a world so distant and make it so interesting.

From the cover of the book all the way through the last page, the author rewards the reader for taking time to read the work. It is absolutely believable with some of the best character development I have been privy to experience. Almost immediately I felt as though I knew and understood each character. I felt more like a silent observer in an adventure of a lifetime - even wanting to add my two cents worth at times. (I did indeed find myself talking to the characters a few times.) When a book can elicit that type of emotion and interaction, it is one that has to be at the top of anyone's must read, must share, must talk about list.

Quest for the Nail Prints by Don Furr is a journey of three unrelated individuals to the time of Christ for reasons they do not know. Elisabeth is a Flight MED Doctor and was heading to Israel to set up a clinic their for trama patients. She is a believer. Paul is a pastor who is going on a Honeymoon gift from his mother and sick stepfather, without his wife because she is fearful of the area and time - it has always been his dream and she wants him to live it. The third traveler is a Professor of Religious studies, who by all accounts is without any religion whatsoever. The three end up on multiple planes together find a sort of bond or rather a mutual destination. Elisabeth has three free days and decides to go sight seeing with Paul, the professors flight gets cancelled and he ends up with them - then one two three round a corner three strange events running and suddenly Paul is seeing Jesus enter the Holy City on Palm City! The story wraps around and around drawing you in and weaving you into the tapestry - one moment in the garden of the night before the crucifixion it is said a man ran out of his cloths - when really in the dark and struggle the soldiers had tore elisabeth's outer garments off her. They were part of the bible we know now, then always. Even the black man who carried the cross was important and a soldier he also seemed to be from the future playing out a part in the final days of Christ.

This book touches the heart and soul of every christian, jew, and non believer alike. I can see a non believer accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior on their knees as they finish this book, and not because of time travel, rather the importance of the events that took place 2000 years ago. How we simply let them fall to the wayside as ashes from a forgotten fire. I know that the story of Mary and Martha used to be one of the most important stories in my life. I found solace in the giving of the alabaster oil on Jesus feet before dinner instead of waiting to use it on His body at the time of His death. I had fallen away forgotten the moment the breath the meaning the feelings around the table the way Jesus had to teach His Disciples the grand gift that He had just been given. This book takes the moments and breaths life into them and lays them out for the reader to not only read but to feel and taste, to experience. Where were you when Christ was Crucified? I was weeping.

This book may be the book that changes the lives of this current generation. It is not a hoax, not a bunch of smoke and mirrors. Rather it is Life, History-Our History, our freedom from Sin, our Bridge to the Father, the new covenant told in a way that just may make you ask another question as to His return.
