I am quite satisfied with Dr. Mays' commentary on the psalms. From my perspective it is quite thorough, but I do find his style of writing somewhat "dense". I hasten to add that evaluation is far more an indictment of my own slowness of wit than a weakness of Dr. Mays. I think that the work provides what it purports to provide and I have already found it helpful in lesson and sermon prep. I don't think that anyone looking for a concise commentary on the psalms will be disappointed.

JL Mays provides comments on every Psalm, though some are covered very lightly. This volume is written to help teachers and preachers. It meets that goal. It is also one of the better volumes in the Interpretation Commentary series. Among the relatively brief commentaries on Psalms, I prefer Broyles or Kidner. Still, this volume is definitely well written and worth reading.
