Publisher's Description

HOPE FOR YOUR PRODIGAL . HELP FOR YOU

Worrying about our loved ones is the worst kind of worry in the world, especially when it’s our children for whom we’re concerned. From the moment they’re born, our youngsters have an unrivaled place in our hearts, and we feel an unending burden for their welfare. We do our best to provide for them and to protect them. But sometimes, like the prodigal’s father in Luke 15, all we can do is entrust them to the Lord, love them, and give them time to find their way. Nothing is more difficult.

Prayers and Promises for Worried Parents offers hope for your prodigal and help for you. In more than a hundred brief readings, Robert J. Morgan offers doses of hope—encouragements from Scripture, effective prayers, true-life stories, promises from God’s Word, timely quotes, and helpful hints for coping with yourself and your child in difficult times.

God specializes in being gracious, and prodigals have a way of coming home. Don’t despair over your wayward ones. The Lord hasn’t given up on them. Nor on you!

Editorial Reviews

"Most Christians have a family member who is or was a prodigal. By skillfully using pertinent Bible verses and relating remarkable answers to the prayers and faith of parents with prodigals, Rob’s book offers hope and comfort to readers. I heartily recommend Prayers and Promises for Worried Parents. You will be blessed!"
“One person has described praying as the most neglected work of the Church. Robert Morgan has provided examples of the historical impact of prayers in the lives of believers and the promises that are ours in the Scriptures accessed through prayer. It seems that our children can send us to our knees quickly and keep us there for a long time. Prayers and Promises for Worried Parents is a timely help for burdened parents.”
“In Prayers and Promises for Worried Parents, Robert Morgan writes from his own experiences. This book is a great help for parents who are desperate for answers! The book encouraged me to express my heart to God specifically and in detail. My prayer life has been blessed and strengthened as a result.”
"Practical. Powerful. Perceptive. Personal. Prayerful. Rob Morgan has crafted a wonderful handbook for all of us with children or friends that are looking for answers in 'all the wrong places.' He teaches all of us that our God listens with great interests to our prayers and gives courage to those that diligently seek Him. Rob carefully takes each of us to the place where prayer and scripture intersect and shows how to find healing, rest, hope, comfort, and joy even in the midst of deep and passionate struggle. A must read for every parent."

Robert J. Morgan in his new book "Prayers And Promises For Worried Parents" published by Howard Books gives us Hope for Your Prodigal. Help for You.

From the back cover: HOPE FOR YOUR PRODIGAL . HELP FOR YOU

Worrying about our loved ones is the worst kind of worry in the world, especially when it's our children for whom we're concerned. From the moment they're born, our youngsters have an unrivaled place in our hearts, and we feel an unending burden for their welfare. We do our best to provide for them and to protect them. But sometimes, like the prodigal's father in Luke 15, all we can do is entrust them to the Lord, love them, and give them time to find their way. Nothing is more difficult.

Prayers and Promises for Worried Parents offers hope for your prodigal and help for you. In more than a hundred brief readings, Robert J. Morgan offers doses of hope—encouragements from Scripture, effective prayers, true-life stories, promises from God's Word, timely quotes, and helpful hints for coping with yourself and your child in difficult times.

God specializes in being gracious, and prodigals have a way of coming home. Don't despair over your wayward ones. The Lord hasn't given up on them. Nor on you!

Let's face it, it is tough to be a parent. And no matter how good we are our children have their own minds and some of them venture away from us and do not seem to want to come back. These children break the hearts of the parents while the parents continue to pray that God would move upon the child to restore and bring them back home. What do you do in the meantime? Robert J. Morgan has provided a devotional to help these parents. Broken into eleven sections: Praying, Trusting, Waiting, Leaning, Learning, Healing, Resting, Hoping, Striving and Singing. These 107 devotionals will help a parent grieve and provide comfort. They help a parent set their heart straight with themselves, the child and with God. Why do we need this book? We get cluttered with stress, worry, cares that draw our attention, "Prayers And Promises For Worried Parents" re-focuses our attention on God and away from those things so that we can be renewed and refreshed. It won't take you long to read this whole book through. This is one book you will be returning to over and over again.

Among the many things that parents have to worry about is the child who has chosen the wrong path. For parents of prodigals, pain and worry is more than a 24 hour a day job. Thoughts of what they could have and should have done, worried thoughts, frantic thoughts control their minds, their conversations and their prayers. It is hard to hand them over to the Lord, but that is what they are told to do. Unless you've been there, it's difficult to understand how they feel. While some parents are dealing with the wayward child who has or is abusing drugs and alcohol, others may be dealing with a child who has walked away from their faith and travelling another dark road of sin.

Robert J. Morgan knows what it's like to care for a prodigal. After taking in a troubled man with a history of drug and alcohol abuse and watching him relapse after six months of progress, all Morgan could do was pray. As a result of his experience, he penned "Prayers and Promises For Worried Parents" as a guide for parents who are traveling the same journey to encourage them along the way and a guide to help them pray. Not only does Morgan teach parents how to pray, he also offers hope to those who have become discouraged.

This prayer and devotional guide is also an excellent resource for all parents not just those dealing with prodigal and wayward children. Morgan's stories will move you. He also includes promises from God's Word, quotes from wise Christians, encouragement and hints about coping in difficult times. If you know a parent who is discouraged about their prodigal child, Morgan's book would make an excellent gift of encouragement.

Honestly, I got this book thinking it was a parenting prayer book... not realizing that it is meant for parents who are worried about a prodigal child.

When I received the book for review and realized what the book was for, I was worried it wouldn't be relevant to me in this season of parenting.

I was so wrong! This book is perfect for any parent who wants to see their children live full lives in the Lord.

This book is full of prayers, quotes, scriptures and thoughts to help guide parents and encourage them while they parent children to grow in God.

Godly parenting is not an easy task and this book gives practical verses to read and practical prayers to pray.

The chapters are short, concise, easy to read and full of insight for parents.

This book could be used as a devotional or as as study guide. I could also see this book used in a church classroom setting for families and/or parents.

The author, Robert Morgan, wrote from his personal story and his pastoral experience to create a great resource for all parents in all seasons of parenting.

I was truly blessed by this book and it will be a continued resource in our home as we raise our girls to love and know Jesus!

Rob Morgan is the pastor of the Donelson Fellowship church in Nashville, Tennessee, which he has served for more than thirty years. Author of The Lord is my Shepherd, The Red Sea Rules and Then Sings my Soul, Morgan is the author of over twenty books including his latest; Prayers and Promises for Worried Parents.

Prayers and Promises is really a devotional. It's 108 short readings and inspirations to equip and encourage parents who worry about their children. Any parent will tell you that life is filled full of natural worry as it is, "Will my child get sick at school?" "Is my child safe?" "Is my child learning at their age level." But each parent does their best to raise them and care for them and the rest of it, well... we kind of have to let that go.

In Luke 15, Jesus tells the story of the lost son. That's really the heart of it isn't it? The son is "lost" just like the coin and the sheep in the previous parables. What is a parent to do when a child is lost? Of course a child doesn't have to be physically "missing" to be lost, there are many aspects to being lost.

    Distance.

    Avoidance.

    Disobedience.

    Hurtful.

    Aimless.

    Closed.

How is a parent supposed to break into that "lost world?" Or rather, like the Father of the lost son, is it better if we just "wait it out?"

In his book, Robert Morgan writes a message of hope to these parents. Each easy to read devotional is filled with scripture and promise. Morgan weaves his own story along with words of wisdom that should bring encouragement to any parent who struggles with this worry.
