Joshua Esh of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, moved to Missouri ostensibly as part of the man swap meant to bring new blood into the community. Annie Beiler caught his attention the moment he arrived in Seymour, but he's disheartened to discover that she is promised to another man-Luke, who left the Amish but vowed to return one day and claim "his" Annie. So, Josh fills his social calendar with singings and frolics, taking a different girl home from every event-with the exception of Annie, since she is already committed to someone.

MariIllinoisAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Promised to Another a Sensational ReadJuly 19, 2016MariIllinoisAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Promised to Another was sensational! Book 3 was the best one in The Amish of Seymour series, by Laura V. Hilton. This entire series has been out of this world.
Annie Beiler, the Amish school teacher who loved history, is a feisty young lady whose job was on the line. Annie had taken her scholars on a field trip to A Civil War Battlefield without proper consent from the parents and school board. Annies former boyfriend, Luke Scwhartz, had jumped the fence and became an Englisher. But guess who reappeared in Promised to Another? Luke, the prodigal returned to Seymour with the assumption he would still be marrying Annie after he joined the church.
Joshua Esh was attracted to Annie when he met her earlier in the series. However, Joshua had come to Missouri in the men swap but had no intentions of staying. He would be given his family farm in Pennsylvania and he loved the season of making maple syrup and planned to return at that time. Luke had seen Joshua and Annie together and informed Joshua no transplant would be getting his girl or working in his familys leather shop business even though he was staying with the Schwartz family, since his arrival in Seymour. Thankfully Annies father offered Joshua a place to stay as he had been interested in the bee business Isaac Beiler had. The Beilers and Schwartzs farms were right beside each other. Joshua had ventured over to the bee hives one day while picking up rocks in a field that Levi Schwartz had instructed him to do.
There are so many twists and turns in Promised to Another. Who was causing so many pranks on Joshua while he was at the Beilers home? An accident involving Annie, Joshua, Cathy, Annies sister, and David, another young man from Pennsylvania. What happens when Bishop Sol overhears threats from a group of young men and then observed some unacceptable behavior at the hospital? Who will be forced to marry Annie Beiler? Will it be Luke Schwartz or Joshua Esh? Grab a copy of Promised to Another along with Patchwork Dreams and A Harvest of Heart. Its best to read the entire series in order, as characters reappear in the other books.
Readers who enjoy Amish genre books will fall in love with Laura Hiltons writing. Im going back to read her earlier books after discovering Lauras more recent books, The Amish of Jamesport and The Amish Firefighter. Ms. Hilton pen in depth stories filled with unusual plots and characters that are well developed. Characters that are put to the test but know their source of strength, faith and love for God will see them through, with prayers and scriptures woven into each challenge they faced.

Annie Beiler is a school teacher who likes to be adventurous such as taking her students on unauthorized field trips which can get her in trouble with the school board. She had always thought she would marry Luke Schwartz, but he jumped the fence into the English world only to return to stake his claim on Annie. Will Joshua be able to convince Annie hes not a player? Will Lukes true colors be exposed before Annie gets hurt and make a big mistake? When Joshuas secret is revealed will Annie get hurt anyway? All of the books in this series are stand-alone. Author Laura V. Hilton writes Amish fiction at its best!
Jane SquiresWasola, MoAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Forgiveness, accident, love, and moreOctober 27, 2012Jane SquiresWasola, MoAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Annie Beiler is promised to Luke. But Luke decides to leave the community and see what the Englishers have to offer. He returns for Annie but he isn't the same.
Joshua Esh is afraid to ask Annie if he can court her. He knows she was promised to Luke. Annie no longer desires Luke. She has a crush on Joshua but he is considered a player.
Fate changes a lot of things. There is a lot of forgiveness, an accident, a forced wedding, and so much more.
A story of misjudging others, mistakes, healing and such.
One thing different was Joshua being transplanted in from Pennsylvania Amish into Missouri Amish.
A good read.
homesteadingHampton Roads -- VAAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful ending to another great series!April 5, 2012homesteadingHampton Roads -- VAAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Annie and Joshua's story is my favorite in this delightful series. That girl has some spunk! She's almost a rebel but not quite. The escapades in teaching that get her in trouble she does because she loves her students and wants them to have the best possible education. What harm can there be in going to a war cemetery? It's part of history, right?!
Joshua is in Seymour under false pretenses and never expected to find someone he would want to marry while he's there. He's got some competition, though. Annie's old beau, Luke, who doesn't want to come to terms with Annie not being interested in him anymore, has surfaced after skipping out on her and is giving Joshua a run for his money.
Conflicts and misunderstandings arise between multiple characters creating a story that captivated me from page one. It was a quick but highly satisfying read. I don't believe it would be at all confusing if you haven't read the others in the series but you should, because they're good.
Laura Hilton writes with clarity and genuine emotion. Her characters embed themselves in your mind and don't want to let go. I highly recommend this book anyone who wants to read an engaging and well written story, but especially to those who love Amish Fiction! You'll get plenty of tension and humor interlaced throughout with spiritual truth.
I want to thank Whitaker House for sending me this book for review purposes. I was not required to write a positive review, just my honest opinion.
MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Amish romance with surprising plot twistMarch 31, 2012MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Schoolteacher Annie Beiler may not fit the typical Amish persona, but she steals your heart as she seeks to find her own true love. She's feisty and spontaneous, but also a thinker and a lover of history. Attracted to one of the transplanted boys from Pennsylvania, Annie wonders why Joshua Esh seems to pay attention to every girl but her. When her former beau returns from the "Englisch" world to reclaim her, Annie balks. She no longer cares for Luke, but how can she convince him?
Joshua has his own secret, which he keeps from Annie even as their relationship develops. Will his deceit cost him her love? Continued misunderstandings threaten to drive them apart. Yet, other circumstances are at work, along with potential tragedies. How can any good come from all the negatives in their lives? Unexpected plot twists make this story one you'll remember.
Laura V. Hilton's third book set among the Missouri Amish completes her "Amish of Seymour" series. I'll miss these wonderful and intriguing characters. She did a great job at bringing the people and place to life. It seems so real I wish I could visit them.
I recommend this for adults not younger teens.
