Princess Stories by Carolyn Larsen puts a Christian spin on the Disney craze over princesses. However, instead of Cinderella, Snow White, and Jasmine, the focus here is on Judge Deborah ("The Wise Princess"), Ruth ("The Loyal Princess"), Esther ("The Daring Princess"), the Virgin Mary ("The Obedient Princess") and 26 other women of the Old and New Testaments. Each princess tells her own story, and no punches are pulled. Eve confesses her sin, and Deborah even actually tells the story of Jael pounding a tent stake through the head of Sisera. (Yikes!)

Following each narrative, there is a page called "Princess Ponderings," in which the readers are asked three questions related to the story and also about a Bible verse referenced in the questions. The sections all begin with the chant of "Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who was the most ______ princess of all?" The blank is filled in with words such as bravest, most helpful, unforgotten, surprised, or faithful. The artwork by Sergey Eliseev is akin to coloring book figures and the page borders are overrun with flowers, branches, leaves, and blossoms. For young girls who are obsessed with the Disney version of what a princess should be, this book offers an alternate set of stories with genuine biblical lessons. Dr. Dennis E. We are impressed We are really impressed with this book. It makes Bible stories exicting for little girls ... with a new twist, as it relates each one to a Princess. We especially love the values that are taught. May 2, 2012

Princess Stories Princess Stories by Carolyn Larson and Illustrator Sergey Eliseev has become my daughtersÃ¢ÂÂ (ages 5 and 8) favorite book to end their day with. My husband or I will read a chapter or two before we tuck our girls into bed. We talk about the story using the discussion questions provided, reminding the girls that these princesses were real people from history, and learn the memory verse. Each chapter focuses on one Bible Ã¢ÂÂprincessÃ¢ÂÂ, some of them are Eve,Sarah. Naomi, Ruth, Hannah, Abigail, Esther, Elizabeth, Mary, and Priscilla. Lists the Bible passage that the story is based on, a short story, Bible memory verse, and discussion questions. They are the perfect length to read at bedtime, and a wonderful way to end our day. AN EXCEPTIONAL CHARACTER BOOK FOR GIRLS! I loved this book, but my 6 year old granddaughter loved it even more! She was sold on it the minute she saw the beautiful pink cover with sparkly purple flowers (her two favorite colors). Since she sees herself as GodÃ¢ÂÂs little princess and a princess in training, she was surprised there were such princesses in the Bible. That sparked her curiosity immediately! The stories were written in such a way that kept her attention. Each princess/ female Bible character is given a title, such as Ã¢ÂÂRebekah the Helpful Princess.Ã¢ÂÂ This gave her an idea right away what the special character quality of that woman. The story has a rhyme that begins with Ã¢ÂÂMirror, mirror on the wall. . . Ã¢ÂÂand introduces how the Ã¢ÂÂprincessÃ¢ÂÂ displayed the character quality. I was impressed with how each account clearly told the Bible story. They were short but very easy for a child to understand. My granddaughter quickly grasped the biblical concepts. Each story has a Bible verse to read and memorize that brings home the main truth presented. At the end of each story there is a section called, Ã¢ÂÂPrincess PonderingsÃ¢ÂÂ. It contains 3 parts: A comprehension question about what was read, a quick activity or thought to apply the truth of the story to their lives and another scripture with a question about what was learned. Each part was perfect in length, not too long and not too short. The pages are beautiful with flower boarders and the illustrations are stunning and appealing to any little girl. My granddaughter begged for me to read more, and was excited about how she could be like each princess. Every little girl should have this book in their library! Lovely feminine teaching book for girls "Princess Stories" would be appropriate for girls ages 4 to 8. The book contains stories about 29 women in the Bible. It wraps up with the 30th story about the reader, who is God's princess too. Each story has a rhyme about the featured Bible princess followed by a narrative about the woman. There is a Bible verse from a passage of Scripture different from the actual Bible story that relates to that Princess' character trait. There is a teaching moment opportunity presented via the Princess Ponderings which are questions to guide discussion at the end of each story. This little book is a delightful way to begin introducing young girls to women in the Bible with more detail than your typical "story book." Girls are inundated with Princesses in fairy tale literature and other venues of entertainment and play, it is time we introduce them to God's princesses and let them learn the real meaning of being a princess. This hardcover book is printed in lovely feminine colors and designs on durable paper. The illustrations are nice and appropriate for the storyline.
