In August 2013, Antoinette Tuff protected more than 900 lives when she talked a school shooter back from the brink. Her inspiring story doesn't begin - or end - there, however. First, Antoinette faced pain, hurt, and rejection in her own life, yet held onto grace, faith, and hope. Her amazing account is living proof that God uses all our life experiences - good and bad - to prepare us for our own moment of divine purpose.

As 870 children waited in fear, their elementary school rushed into lockdown mode. As the nation faced yet another Sandy Hook story of tragedy, one woman rewrote the ending.
Yet the story doesn't start with those first steps Michael Hill took into that Atlanta elementary school. It starts with Antoinette Tuff, a woman who faced her own pain, hurt, and rejection, yet held onto grace, faith, and hope. A hope that anchored her in the most high stakes of moments, a grace that allowed her to empathize with a hurting young man, and a faith that gave her the courage to love him back from the brink.
This is more than just the amazing account of tragedy averted. It's the evidence of what we can do when we allow ourselves to be used by God. And it's a story of how God uses all of our life experiences--the good and the bad--to prepare us for our own moment of divine purpose.

She finished reading it in 3 days (this is astonishing because she isn't a reader) and loved it! A friend asked if she could borrow it and I lent it to her. She too found this story to be empowering and asked if she could pass it along to our mutual friend. I have YET to read the book but am anticipating it! My mom just ordered a dozen copies as Christmas gifts.

I've heard about ones that have happened and it was interesting reading someone's first person account of what happened in one that could have ended up like most of the other shootings.
I did find the book jumped all over the place. Once Tuff started talking about the events of the shooting, I just wanted to know what happened but instead Tuff would jump to her personal experiences which were interesting but I just wanted to know what happened in the shooting.
This is an interesting book for what it contains, although not everyone will agree with the theology she includes as I didn't always agree with it.

Her open and honest testimony of how her own difficult life events brought her to a place where she could help heal another broken person can do nothing but point someone to the power of God.
Tuff has not led a glamorous life, and in fact has fought her own demons. But her willingness to share those moments with her readers demonstrates the power of God in every sinner's life.
This book was an easy read, too, as she kept it fast-moving going back and forth from past events to the present.
I definitely recommend this book to encourage anyone in any type of crisis.
