A Great Choice for Mastery Based Middle / HS Math!
November 6, 2013
We used Saxon for many years and were burned out on the spiral approach, monotony, lack of interest, etc. We wanted a mastery-based program, that would take us through middle school and maybe even high school. We wanted something with chapters that focus on one topic or related topics, but plenty of Mixed Review every day so old skills would not be forgotten. We wanted something with color, and we wanted something that matched most state standards or exceeded them. We found all of this in Prentice Hall Math. The sequence is Course 1, COurse 2, Course 3, or if you find your student struggling with course 2, you can use Pre-Algebra which is EASIER than Course 3. I believe you can also jump into Course 2 in 6th grade if your child is very strong or advanced in math. My son is doing very well with this math and I thought the little Homeschool Pamphlet was well done. The only downside is that the solutions manual is somewhere on the CD Rom and we don't have a computer with a disc drive. So I'll have to go to a friend's or Kinko's to access it.
