In The Potluck Club Takes the Cake by Linda Evans Shepherd and Eva Marie Everson, the Potluck girls go through a lot together: a cheating husband, a dead son who comes back to life, an avalanche, and even a wedding at age sixty. Each gal, however, has her own story, making up the rambling but fun episodes of this zany novel.

The Potluck Club is a gathering of ladies who support one another with food and prayer. Each woman tells her own story, so the book is written in first person. As such, it can be difficult reading with the narrator changing in each new chapter. This novel is the second in a series, but the beginning describes the ladies of the Potluck Club so readers will know who they are without having read the first book.

The Potluck Club Takes the Cake is an easy novel for women of all ages to relate to because it covers many relevant issues. Shepherd and Everson have a way of bringing the issues of life out of the darkness without over-exaggerating them. Although it seems by the title and cover art that it would be a romance novel, the book actually has many elements of edgy suspense. This was the first book by the authors that I had read, and although I dont normally pick up romance novels, I quite enjoyed this book. -- Mindy Kreilein, Christian Book Previews.com

A fun read! If you liked the earlier books in this series, this one does not disappoint. It continues the story of the characters from the earlier novels. I think this series is fun and easy to read. The authors do a good job showing the impact of Jesus in the lives of these characters. January 26, 2012

Cooking, Drama , Christian Chick Lit Review: The Potluck Club Takes the Cake - Book #3 The Potluck Club - Linda Evans Shepherd and Eva Marie Everson - May 2007. This would have to be the most jam-packed book in the Potluck Club with countless dramas and weddings galore. We have Evangeline's wedding coming up but it wouldn't be a wedding without drama as not only does her ex-husband turn up but by his side is Sheriff Vernon Versey's ex-wife and in her tow is a daughter who shares an eerie resemblance to their daughter Donna . Goldie and Jack have been in marriage counselling after Jack's numerous affairs, but what will happen to their romantic weekend away when one of those affairs turns up on Goldie's doorstep claiming to be pregnant with Jack's baby ? Deputy Sheriff Donna Versey has three guys hot on her but after what went down with her being sued for negligence , does she find herself worthy and who will she choose - Hot Hollywood star David , Wade or newspaper reporter Clay ? . We also see a surprise engagement between two characters that seemed unlikely ? With Dramas galore , will the Potluck Club be able to put their differences aside and help each other to survive the storms of family life and relationships , it's time for The Potluck Club to band together and strut their stuff and show the townsfolk what they have.
