Pocket Bible-NRSV, Leather, Black
The BEST All-Purpose Bible Available
If you are in the market for a portable and usable NRSV then look NO FURTHER. This Bible is the highest quality with supple leather, strong sewn binding, gold edges that are not done the new spray-painted way but appear to be the classic gold foil. It has gold trip around the edges of the pages on the leather, raised hubs on the spine, clear and readable type...this is one of the highest quality Bibles I own (comparable even to larger study editions in premium leathers).
One thing I must mention is something that shocked me in a pocket bible: it lays FLAT...even when opened to Genesis and Revelation. To me that says highest quality that a smaller Bible does that.
Its quality really shows in how much I have used it. This Bible has traveled the country with me, traveled to my college classes with me shoved in my messenger bag, it was the Bible I first used in sharing the gospel and later used to guide my first Bible study on campus for a year. Me and this Bible have been all over and it's stood up very well -- it still looks great, binding is as sturdy as day one. The only gripe is what I have with all Oxford Bibles (it only seems to happen with them) in that the ribbon has frayed about a quarter or half inch up. It's stayed at that point for over a year now but still, something to note.
It's hard to describe, but the "feel" of this bible is perfect. It's just the right size to fit in your palm with your fingers between the hubs. After some time and use it fits in your hand like an old baseball glove. It's also highly portable while being still just as big as it can be having the whole Bible (and by that I mean including the Apocrypha). What I mean by "just as big as it can be" is, for example, the fact that I can just get it into my jeans pocket with a little persuasion. If it were any bigger it wouldn't fit, any smaller and the type would be unreadable. It's sized perfectly for transport and use.
I'm always a big proponent of having a pocket/compact Bible. Every Christian needs one. You can carry it anywhere -- even around the house -- and then it's there when you have the desire to read, or feel tempted and need some encouragement. The Devil uses laziness a lot to keep people from reading their Bibles, but if it's always with you, you don't have to go get it. It's also amazing to remember all the places you were, the people you reached, the revelations you had with a specific Bible, and this one is the easiest to use and carry all over.
This Bible is as much a necessary accessory to me as my cell phone and comes everywhere. It's elegant enough for a businessman, and durable enough for a teenager. To me, honestly, it's the perfect Bible and my absolute favorite and treasured possession. I have a whole bookshelf filled with Bibles -- mostly NRSV but most every English translation is represented as well as every kind of bible (study, devotional, reference, plain text, etc.) -- and this one beats them all for its all-purpose functionality and durability. I've had "quality" Bibles for a month that fell apart, yet this little guy keeps going. It's the Energizer bunny of Bibles, the Cadillac, the best. Buy it, you won't regret it and you'll have a Bible that will last your lifetime and still be in tact enough to pass down.
A last note on the translation: The NRSV is the best translation to have for a pocket/carry Bible as it was translated by Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox Christians, and even a Jewish scholar for the Old Testament. It's ecumenical and therefore perfect to carry and share with anyone. It also, due to the diverseness of scholarship, gives the most trustworthy and unbiased rendering of the scriptures available and is widely considered the premiere study translation in colleges/universities and seminaries. This particular Bible is great due to having the Protestant canon in order with the Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical books between the Old and New Testaments so anyone can use it.
Get this Bible and God bless!
