Dean Nelson has a lively, conversational writing style, and this book has wonderful and valuable things to say. I wont soon forget them. Frederick Buechner, author of Listening to Your Life
Dean Nelson is Gods spy, looking for God in all the times and places most of us would never think of looking. He doesnt miss much. Nelson combines a journalists gift for involving us in the stories that are happening all around us with a professors attentiveness to the sacramental nature of this God-created, Christ-redeemed life in which we are immersed. Combining the readability of excellent writing and the reliability of sound scholarship, God Hides in Plain Sight is better than a spy novel. Eugene Peterson, translator of The Message, professor of spiritual theology emeritus, Regent College, Vancouver
Dean Nelson writes beautifully. And no less wonderful, he sees beautifully and knows how to help us see what he sees. In God Hides in Plain Sight, he will help you spot what is most worth seeing (and very easily missed): the beauty of God camouflaged in the sacrament of your daily experience, around you, right now, whoever and wherever you are. Brian McLaren, author, activist, brianmclaren.net
If God is indeed hidden in the world around us, then were blessed to have a warm, entertaining tour guide in Dean Nelson. He leads us through the sacraments with humor and creative insight, expertly pointing out the placesand the Presencemost of us miss along the way. Jason Boyett, author of Pocket Guide to the Bible and Pocket Guide to the Afterlife
Dr. L.E. WagnerAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5December 8, 2009Dr. L.E. WagnerAge: 55-65Gender: maleI am nearing the end of this wonderful book. Dean has shared with us through his humor and sorrows, some of the great ways in which we can see God in the mundane. Too often, we miss these experiences because they are not the big things. Dean reminds us that more often than not, God makes Himself known to us in the little things. I recommend this book for spiritual formation classes, small group Bible studies and personal reflection.
Karen Naber5 Stars Out Of 5September 16, 2009Karen NaberJust finished reading this book and I'm sure I'll read it more than once, so the insights gleaned from it stay fresh in my mind and heart. I feel like my 'sacred radar' has been given a tune up! Now I tread more lightly throughout my day, trying not to miss the sacred moments going on all around me. I related to so many stories in the book. I cried, I winced, I laughed out loud! It truly changed the way I view my circumstances from the past and I will look, with different eyes, at those circumstances yet to come. Not a preachy-type of book, just one not-so-perfect Christian sharing with another, on a level that can relate to anyone---Christian or not.
Jerie Messer4 Stars Out Of 5September 2, 2009Jerie MesserI'm only on chapter 3 but I can say that this book has already met my expectations. Dean writes clearly, warmly and honestly. For those who are looking to find the sacred in their everyday lives, this title will not disappoint.
