Jamie Carie's Pirate of My Heart deals with love in the face of adversity. In 18th-century England, young Lady Kendra Townsend loses her father. She must either marry someone she does not love or take a chance on a new life in America. Kendra has to rely on her faith in God as she faces the pain of losing her home and easy life to those who would also take her fortune.

On her voyage to America, Kendra meets Dorian Colburne, a sea captain not used to being shackled by a woman. The story focuses on their relationship and the forces around them that try to keep them apart. Ultimately, their love triumphs when Dorian saves her from kidnapping and death and she saves him from his fear of love.

Kendra is likeable and relatable for her charming personality and deep faith. Her relationship with Dorian is well-developed throughout the novel, though at times the romance is heavy-handed. While they gain friendship and reliance on each other, the physical side of their relationship is also related in superficial detail. Carie's descriptions are occasionally wandering and cliched, and a few key moments are overlooked. When Dorian's spiritual journey should reach its climax, Carie instead brings back the "saving Kendra" plotline. Still, Kendra's hope and determination hold the reader's attention through to the dramatic end. Her spirit epitomizes Galatians 6:9, "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."

Pirate of My Heart will please readers of historical romance, but other readers may find that Carie's various story elements need a little work. The prose could be tighter, some of the action better thought out, and the spiritual climax brighter. I loved this book, and author! I had difficulty downloading this ebook to my Ipad however. The two products don't connect well. My husband was finally able to get it loaded. I love CBD products, but now I'm using the Ibooks app for my Ipad. I am now on her 4th book and she is an excellant author!! December 15, 2012

Romance, Adventure, Mystery Pirate of My Heart by Jamie Carie was a great read if you enjoy romance, adventure, and mystery. I really enjoyed the book. I couldnÃ¢ÂÂt put it down. I have read other books by this author and have thoroughly enjoyed them. This story takes place in England during the seventeen hundreds. KendraÃ¢ÂÂs mother died at her birth but her loving father adored her and took care of her throughout her life. Her uncle made a bad business investment and went to her father for financial help. He agrees to help him. Shortly after this, her father had a terrible carriage accident and died during a storm. KendraÃ¢ÂÂs uncle then decides to move in and take over the responsibilities of her father. Her uncle gives her the choice of either marrying or going to America to live with her aunt and uncle. Kendra doesnÃ¢ÂÂt want to marry the man her uncle wants her to so she decides to go to America. While on the ship going over to America she falls in love with the captain of the ship. She calls him a pirate when she first meets him and later on calls him the Ã¢ÂÂpirate of her heartÃ¢ÂÂ (in other words he has captured her heart). She ends up marrying the captain and becomes pregnant. She returns to England because she thinks her husband doesnÃ¢ÂÂt love her. You will have to read the novel to find out what happens in the end. A must read! Dorian Colburn may not be a real pirate but Lady Kendra Townsend says he is the pirate of her heart because he has taken it, but neither one of them realize the extent of their true feelings for most of the book. Lady Kendra has been sent away by her uncle to America to live with family she has never met because she won't marry the man he picked out for her. The problem is that there is much more to it then Kendra can even imagine and her uncle will do anything to get his hand on her tiny inheritance that is coming to her from her mother's said. Dorian Colburn is the captain of the ship that Lady Kendra is on and is bitter to the idea of love and marriage after what happened in his first marriage. When trouble comes to Kendra will Dorian feel that she is worth the risk both physically and emotionally? Wow, after reading this book it made me wonder why I had never read any of Jamie Carie's books before. I really have been missing out on a great author, but not anymore. Like many of us do I read the back of the book and kind of made my predictions of what I thought would happen, well I was wrong on most of them and that made the book so much better. This book is a page turner that was so hard to put down. I ended up reading the last half of it one night because I couldn't wait to find out what will happen. With romance, danger, suspense and adventure there is a little something for everyone. A solid 5 star book! *I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. January 10, 2012

......Breathtaking! I loved this story so much! It kept me going and I couldn't put it down! It was most definitively worth my money and I will be buying more of Jamie Carie's work! This book was more then I could ever imagine it to be and I was sad when it ended. In a good way though. I was sad that the story had ended but loved the ending and it left me dreaming for days after... it was a wonderful story and I highly recommend it! November 21, 2011
