Anyone who is acquainted with our family knows we’ve moved a lot. (Our friends probably cannot fit another Andreola address onto the “A” page of their address books unless they know us well enough to have used pencil!) Although we have changed residences from state to state, town to town, the children have always gone to the same school—our little homeschool. Our portable homeschool remains a constant among so many changes—new neighborhood, new church, new friends, new dentist, new grocery store, etc. Something else is portable, too. It’s our Christian faith. We are patriotic Americans, yet we are also citizens of another country—the kingdom of God. We are sojourners and pilgrims that need not become so perfectly settled here in this world.
This is one of the lessons I have learned by reading The Pilgrim’s Progress. Combining the physical journey of the main character “Christian” with that of a spiritual journey, it’s a valuable book for all readers.
In 1660 Puritan John Bunyan was imprisoned for 12 years for preaching (sharing the gospel) without a license. Bunyan was a tinker with very little formal education but with a great love for the Bible. The Pilgrim’s Progress (said to be the first Christian novel) was written in his prison cell. Biblical truth emanates from his simple and straightforward writing, and blends with his imagination to create unforgettable, genuine characters.
These allegorical characters are similar to those we are likely to encounter today. Who, in real life, has not known a Mr. Pliable, a Mr. Worldly-wise, a Mr. Vain-Confidence, or a Mr. Money-love? And just as in real life, there are characters who make it to the Celestial City and others who sadly do not. Only those who lay their burden of sin at the cross and follow the narrow path—the way of the Lord—are victorious.
For generations Christians have found a kinship with The Pilgrim’s Progress. It is my opinion that no Christian home should be without this favorite of books. And my opinions are not always so bold. 450 pages, softcover from Bridge.

This is my first time reading this book in the modern translation. I am not sure about it yet. I guess I am very used to the King James and so don't mind the original.

This edition kept much of the original feeling but seemed to have been hastily updated caused a loss of the intensity. If it was read aloud to someone, especially the youth, I am not sure their attention would last.

This is a great book for any christian at any stage in their walk with God. It would be a good book to give to someone who is not a Christian because I think it would help to bring them to Christ.

Excellent book. Great also for a group study. Has a study guide in the back section of the book. Has referenced all bible verses used in the book. Next to the Bible this is a book every believer should read as it depicts the spiritual journey we all will take. Also has a section of questions asked to the reader on each chapter to reflect upon.
This book has encouraged me in my daily walk.

The pilgrim's progress (as we well know) is sencond only to the Bible in the number of copies printed. Some even call it "second only to the Bible." In the opinion of many, if not almost all critics on Christian and English literarture, a classic for the ages.
Many still say this perfect for the new Christian, as Bunyan also infers throught his most famous work. Clearly a great work for the continuation of the glory of our Lord, correct?
I, on the other hand disagree entirely. Bunyan, while giving the impression that he is portraying an objective image of Christianity, in fact demonsrates his partiality to Puritanism Disestablishmentariansim.Young Christains who encounter this partiality risk falling into Bunyan's preffered doctrine. Saying this should be read at the beginning of one's faith is preposterous, for it is the mirror of Bunyan's try at the deception of one's person. In fact, Bunyan's opinion of any other doctine besides his was that the members of which ( say Anglican and Roman Catholic, Bunyan's hated enemies), would eventually and ultimately fall into perdition.
