CJMamaSaugerties, NYAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Not EXACTLY age appropriateSeptember 18, 2014CJMamaSaugerties, NYAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3I have a third grader who I've taken through the green and then blue series of AIG Science, reading the beginner section with her (NOTE: This series has NO beginner section), and this year bought this series which is supposed to be 3rd-8th grade. It is ridiculous trying to explain to her what atoms and molecules are. They aren't explained at all in the curriculum, just referred to, as if my 3rd grader was supposed to know. I don't even know! If I follow the plan of AIG and start in 1st with their science program, doing another series each year, when did they expect my 3rd grader to learn what a molecule is? It seems to me like they should add another series in between the blue and green series and the red and orange. Or add a beginner section to these as well. I highly recommend AIG and love this curriculum (printable quizzes and worksheets on a CD, any homeschool parent screams YES!!!) for it's flexibility and yet thoroughness--thoroughness until now that is. They've done an excellent job so far. I just want a tiny bit more!! The green and blue books are also a little young in their content for grades 7-8 I think. It's the content really. Heat & Energy is too much to ask a 3rd or 4th grader to care much about understanding on the molecular level. But animals, the human body and plants should be taken in at a deeper level for older students.

Science in machines, inventions, aircraft, I thought would be interesting. I viewed the book on CBD, and the pics were colorful, which was a plus. I purchased the book, and my son who hates science actually had to admit it was interesting.
Another plus are the lessons plans... very easy to follow. The daily questions are laid out for you. CD's also accompany the book set, which have worksheets to be printed for extra practice on particular subjects. I am very impressed with this curriculum.. it's been well thought and planned out... leaving no "guess work" , and requires little superrvision for older students. My son is in 8th grade and does his work self directed each day. ( Although, I do print out the worksheets and instruct him when he needs to work on each one, and I use a notebook for the questions at the end of each lesson.)
Each book has a a teacher's guide as well. These guides explain how to perform experiments from the CD's, and gives instructions for the printable worksheets. Like I said.. this is a well thought out science program, yet soo easy to follow. I asked my husband, "Where was this science program when I was homeschooling my girls 10 yrs ago?" A side note.. this is a mult-age program... designed to fit various ages.. Taking it Further for older students... cannot recommend enough!
