theeastgateAge: 25-344 Stars Out Of 5Great program...get the teacher's manual!February 11, 2012theeastgateAge: 25-34I have the full phonics museum kit from my oldest daughter, so only purchased the K workbook to complete the kit for my youngest. We have really enjoyed the program and seen very positive results. The fine arts component was unique and she surprisingly retained alot of it. I would recommend buying the Veritas Press "Fine Arts Primers" kit as a companion to this program as it helps to put the artist/genra information in perspective for the children. I only gave the program 4 stars, because I noticed that my daughter's reading skills advanced faster than her writing skills, so she is often reading at a higher level then the primers. The good thing is, we were able to speed up the reading section if she had already mastered it and spend that extra time reading aloud together. The letter coloring sheets were wonderful as they covered a specific piece of art at the same time as letter form and sound. We copied them so our youngest could color along with sister...and she LOVED it. Overall, I would highly recommend this program!
P.S. We were not excited that the first primer was about "Pan", but put in the perspective of history we were able to explain that he was a false god worshiped by many for years. VP, though coming from a Christian perspective, is great about including classical pieces. You as a parent have the privilege of adding any background info that you feel important. The VP readers cover many different stories and can be really interesting to young minds!
